The prices remain the same for album purchases though, so the few who still appreciate an album these days get the unrestricted higher quality for nothing.

When I read all that earlier today on the news I was really happy. This may even get me back to buying online music (at least the unprotected stuff).

This is good news; from what I've heard of AAC, 128kbps is nearly equal to CD-quality, so I imagine 256kbps would be, as the press release states, indistinguishable from it.

To begin, it is useful to remember that all iPods play music that is free of any DRM and encoded in “open” licensable formats such as MP3 and AAC.
Do they play OGG though?

I've been getting my stuff through eMusic, but they don't carry any major artists. So I look forward to getting some Beatles and Massive Attack into my collection.

Mostly I'm glad. Frankly I'd gone right off music because of the sourpusses that are the RIAA and, oh, the whole music business and those that sail in her. Maybe this is the start of music being fun again. If only video games would follow suit.
Did I pimp (

Unfortunately, it appears that the Beatles' catalogue isn't part of the deal. EMI is supposed to work out a deal with Apple(the Beatles').

Ah, well, I suppose I shouldn't be too surprised about that, considering how long it took to get them on iTunes in the first place.

You guys make me feel like a dinosaur! We actually buy physical CD's & still mourn for the loss of 12" vinyl cover art. :laff: I've been considering checking out some of the online services. Any recommendations?
