It has been three months since the announcement was made, 4881 signatures on the (
https://www.change.org/petitions/eidos-montreal-square-enix-bring-back-stephen-russell-for-thief-4) petition, and a lot more information on the new game and here we are, taffers. While EM's stance on the new VA appears to be firm, I am curious as to how much of an impact Stephen Russell's absence is, considering the current information we have.
EDIT: Thank Brethren for helping me fix the typo.

You can correct it yourself, I believe. Just edit the post, and then click on "Go Advanced."

A horrible disappointment for me as I've mentioned countless times before. The one thing that in my opinion makes Garrett who he is, the element that means the most to me, and to change it knowing it would crush the existing fans, and for a completely bs reason -and that's the reason they're giving, not necessarily the real one; I suspect the real motivations lie in drastically changing the game to make it palatable to the masses ... At this point if I ever get the game it will be at the bargain bin, or some other way where Eidos won't get my money. The only way I'll buy the game normally is if they bring Russell back, or at least include a soundpack with his voice, but that most likely won't happen.
I would even be willing to pay double the price of the game if they brought him back.

Thank you brethren!
I never bought the mocap excuse. It makes no sense. I think that they changed Garrett's design and felt that SR didn't match the opiate addled nuGarrett.

Plus, I bet you the scenes where you actually see Garrett's lips moving - if any - will probably be 5 minutes out of the whole game.
Shinrazero on 6/7/2013 at 20:34
You bring up an interesting point, the guard in the e3 demo, the one rallying the watch, I was not impressed with the lip movement at all.
Azaran on 6/7/2013 at 20:38
Yeah and even if there are many scenes like that, they just have to transfer SR's lip movements onto Garrett. The whole thing about Stephen not looking natural just doesn't fly. I bet they didn't even try that.

I think the crux of the matter is that EM created something so unThief that Stephen Russell doesn't fit into it. They've vastly underestimated his importance to series. When they realized he didn't fit they should have taken that as a sign that what they had created had gone horribly wrong. What they did instead was just stick someone else in there.
Azaran on 6/7/2013 at 21:34
If they want to change the voice so bad, the least they could do is create a new protagonist. Just please, don't call him Garrett. Is that so hard? If it's a reboot, why not create a different thief character entirely?
Ceamonks890 on 6/7/2013 at 21:55
Even if Eidos Montreal did go and rehire Stephen to do Garrett's voice(as it was supposed to be in the first place), I still wouldn't give this atrocious reboot anything beyond a rental at least(just to see how badly they screwed up the formula of the franchise). I've just not been impressed with what I've seen so far. Taking the disgusting behaviour towards actual Thief fans from EM employees into account, this game doesn't even deserve a purchase from anyone IMO.
