After wrapping up Invisible, Inc., and finding myself still craving more turn based strategy, I picked up Steamworld Heist (on the PS4). Never played any of the Steamworld games before, but this thing looked like fun, had a metascore of 81, and I remember hearing good things about it. I've played up until the first bossfight and y'know what? It's great.
I'm just gonna post this Cool Ghosts vid because it says everything I'd wanna say, but better. If you can bring yourself not to turn it off when he refers to the genre as "XCOM", I believe you'll find it quite informative!

It is nice. Very nice. Hands down the nicest tbs game I've played. Nicer than Valkyria Chronicles! Initially I felt it might be a tad too light-weight, but then I upped the difficulty to Veteran(second hardest) and since then I've had some real tough heists where I've barely scraped by. Still, this is certainly far more forgiving than Invisible, or XCOM. Your agents are always revived after a mission, for one thing. The challenge lies more in trying to do a mission perfectly, rather than surviving and preparing for the finale.

I've been playing this on-and-off on my 3DS (also on Vet), and it's pretty good. I'm just finished the first region (beat the scrapper boss) and put it down for now. It's not blowing my socks off though :( I'd still rate X-Com or Valkyria above it, but I have yet to try Invisible Inc.
As for forgiving: that's a relative term. If you lose a crew member, your odds of survival for the remaining crew just dropped significantly. Plus the game actively prevents save scumming, so you have to take the resource loss if you fail a mission.

I played the first game a fair bit. Excellent little Metroidvania style game. HIGHLY recommend it.

I do have Steamworld Dig on both PS4 and PC. Been meaning to get around to it for a good while now.

Just finished it. ~15h total. The Red Queen was the toughest bit, final bossfight was a cakewalk by comparison.
This was really damn good. Great gameplay, likeable characters, and cool tunes from the cowbot band. It's just through-and-through a well-designed game. So many great little touches that just felt good. Like being able to issue commands to another squadmember immediately, rather than have to wait for the current one to finish their task, and the way you click through all the loot at the end to see what you got, and the organic way your ship connects with others while you're still walking around freely, rather than it being a cutscene or something. Yeah, this was great. Will certainly be in my top 5 this year.
