What Craeftig said. The PS3 uses the Core architecture, which, rather than the now standard CPU/GPU combo, instead uses this weird 7 independent cores + 1 redundant core deal that requires programmers to get all these disparate parts talking together to eek out a decent amount of performance.
The simple fact is that the PS3 is, theoretically, a more powerful machine than the Xbox360, but that no one ever saw that potential maximized because it was nigh impossible for programmers to utilize to its full potential should be proof of that.
...and now it's decently emulated. Color me shocked and surprised.
