I ended up throwing some dosh at a bunch of things, which is surprising given I didn't think there was much I wanted to buy.

I picked up TIS-100, a programming puzzle game, and it shows your friends' scores. I can see Al_B's score for every puzzle. Dude, puzzle 2 - Signal Amplifier - I need to know how you finished it in 86 cycles. I NEED TO KNOW, Al_B! I optimised it so that both lanes are calculating at the same time, but it's still 122 cycles. Gaaah.

Ahhhh, I see what you've done. Mine passes to the right, and also uses the middle to calculate. Yours has a route on the left which takes a greater number of nodes, but frees up the first node to only sorting, so uses fewer cycles. I'm starting to get the hang of this. It's been really challenging so far. Thanks! :D

Well, there are pretty good deals for consoles too. F.e. PSN's winter sale. For about 100$ one can get:
