The better comparison would be Syndicate.
I know it's the spiritual successor to Syndicate, but moment-to-moment gameplay really does share a lot in common with DoW2, with the cover system, customisable loadouts and RPG-lite character statistics as well as triggered abilities on cooldowns.
henke, I think you'd be doing yourself a dis-service if you didn't give it a shot, as I think the other game it compares well to is MGSV. Bear with me here; it's to do with emergent situations and plans going wrong. And it even beats MGSV in this respect, as the challenge scales a lot better, never becoming trivial.
I always approach a mission intent on stealthing the entire thing, but maybe one guy will spot my dudes, and maybe they'll make too much noise killing him. His buddies come to investigate, and while a few open fire, maybe one will hold back and radio for help. Maybe my sniper will miss the shot that cuts his alert message off short, and next thing you know I've got heavily armed troops backing up the initial guys, maybe even with a mech or two backing them up.
Then it becomes a desperate fight to get the hell out of there as you chuck scenery-destroying grenades around, brain-jack one or two of the enemy, get your support guy to initiate the boosted reflexes skill slowing everything to a crawl, send your soldier to revive your hacker who inevitably goes down when the lead-to-air quotient starts favouring the former...
It's an open-world, tactical squad sand-box which heavily promotes playing the game however you please. There's no set way to achieve a goal, no optimal approach. It chucks a load of problems at you and numerous toys with which to solve them and lets you go wild.
Of course, if you're still not sure about it, see if you can get a demo of it.

I can see the link. But I dunno, I wouldn't put the 2 in the same category. I do agree on DoW in regards to abilities + leveling up, though in feel for me I'd more compare it with Syndicate Wars (not the original Syndicate game so much) in feel and look.

I was hoping MGS5 would have a higher discount, but I guess that's a lot to ask considering it's only been out for 4 months.

Out for 4 months and still selling well. Mad Max was released on the same day and is down to €17.
I'm enjoying Mad Max btw, but it's no MGS V.

I finally grabbed Dying Light - I'd been meaning to get that for a while.
Only took a quick peek so far, but it seems like it might well be the better of the two duct tape gathering sims of 2015.

It's a pretty shit sale overall. Honestly axing the daily and flash deals has killed off most of the heavier discounts that you'd get in Steam sales. I can totally see why they axed the old Steam sale system though:- otherwise their customer service people would be kept busy by idiots requesting refunds because they didn't know the buying guidelines of the old Steam sales.
Grim Fandango has the heaviest discount that it's ever had at 80% off.
Cities Skylines has the heaviest discount that it's ever had at 60% off.

Hold off playing it until Feb 9th, when the Enhanced Edition patch comes out. If you've waited this long to play it, you may as well wait a few more weeks for the better version.

It's still only Dead Island 2 in all but name.

Sounds like a plan, will give me time to finish up Fallout 4.

I was thinking about Satellite Reign, but then I remembered I haven't got X-Com yet.

True that. I wonder why they changed the name.

They lost the rights to make a sequel, IIRC.
I'll admit that I never played Dead Island. It looked somewhat interesting, but the things I heard about it were rather mixed. Dying Light sounded like they took the best parts of that and polished it up with added parkour.
