If they price this competitively: it could be a real contender against the next gen consoles, which are likely going to be $700-1000 USD, with how things are going.

It looks very interesting, and if priced right I'd get one. I've got a Steam Deck for when I travel and love it.

I want their new VR headset they announced, but I'll need a PC to run it off, so maybe this is it. In any case, helping the gaming industry move away from Windows is a good thing.

Yes I have read about it, so its a console but also a computer, that can be advantageous to some people.

It's a small form factor PC running Linux, an open platform OS. Consoles have closed platform software ecosystems.
The hardware specs puts it between a PS4 and Xbox Series S in terms of power, so hopefully that's a sign they've built it with economical pricing in mind. The Xbox home PC box that's supposed to be coming out in the relative near future and they've said will be a "premium device"; so that probably translates to a high price tag, probably around $1000 USD (if the Xbox Ally X handheld PC is any indication). Hopefully Steam Machine will force MS to pivot their plans and price their home PC box to be more competitive.
