But doesn't have the advanced controls that really makes it work well.
If you're fine playing FPS with a joystick it might be okay.
Also, runs windows isn't all good. The deck does awesome stuff with suspend/resume that doesn't work on Windows; it really does make it like a Switch where you can pick it up and are immediately in game, and can put it down just as easily.
EDIT:
I really don't want to undersell exactly how much SteamOS brings to this, btw. You can power off or on at any time and you'll be back in the game in literally 1 second - and it seems to work with every game or app I've tried.
And Valve is working on being able to suspend apps and store them, so you may soon be able to pause your Thief game, go play something else, and then come back to it and be right there where you left off.
There's also some awesome overlays you can enable with as much (or little) diagnostic data as you want, and if you're trying to maximize battery life you can cap framerate, set resolution scaling, or toggle a few other settings to get the longest session out of the battery.
Basically it really does feel like a console, in a good way, but of course you can always drop back to a desktop if you need to.
it has many usb ports,so it can have a usb hub for mouse /keyboard/etc
you sure put in a lot of text to be incorrect
my point was its better then steam deck
Kerrle on 6/5/2022 at 19:17
You can use a USB hub with the Deck if you want to.
I'm really not seeing how it's notably better, especially as an actual handheld, and especially at twice the cost.
Since you haven't actually used SteamOS I'm just going to ig ore your dismissive 'incorrect'.

Kerrie is completely correct. The Steam Deck really does a great job of translating the PC experience to a handheld. I've been playing Morrowind, Arx Fatalis and Thief a lot and they play really well. Ayo Neo is fine but it's too expensive and the Windows experience is generally pretty tosh compared to SteamOS.
Have you uploaded your controller profile to Steam community? I'd love to give it a go. My setup is similar but I haven't bound the joystick to a fancy selection wheel.

Yeah, though I moved the radial menu over to the left trackpad. It's shared as "Conan's Thief on Steam Deck".
It uses the default key bindings, you just need to enable joystick in the game options.

I'm kinda stuck. I've transferred my installed thief 2, patched by t2fix, to steam deck. Game runs fine, I can move around with joystick support enabled, but no luck with mouse. It just doesn't react to anything other then touchscreen. No touchpad, no stick. Tried different control schemes. Can it be smth in game config files?

Kerrle, please, maybe you can guide me? Cause from proton.db info it should work out of the box, i don't understand what im doing wrong here. Clean thief ii with t2fix installed in windows and folder transfered to steamdeck, added to steam and launching with proton experimental.

Lol, i was selecting wrong gamepad profile, now it's solved, everything works fine!

It could be the config, but what is your controller set up as in Steam? Maybe it's defaulting to a gamepad.
Just press the steam button while it's running and look at the Controller Settings page.
Edit: Oh, just saw your update. Great, glad you got it working.

Thanks Kerrie for letting us know Thief FMs actually work on a Steam Deck, was wondering the same thing myself. Definitely want to buy one now!! :D

I just ordered an OLED Steam Deck and one of the use cases I'm imagining is getting through my Thief FM backlog. Kerrie, have you found any other issues with the games? I'll definitely give your bindings a try once I get it up and running.
