Disappointingly, Mirror's Edge: Catalyst doesn't seem to work at all with the Steam Controller. It seems to be completely blocking the Steam Overlay, so it'll pick up the mouse+kb bindings, but none of the XInput bindings. Very strange. Not much point using it if I don't get the benefit of analog movement with the trackball aim precision.

Wait, so, setting joystick in your desktop bindings and then just launching Thief directly it works?

I don't think it's doing what you think it's doing. When Steam isn't running the controller gets read as a mouse+kb, with the joystick mapped to the arrow keys and left and right triggers mapped to right and left mouse buttons. When Steam is running, the default desktop binding is as described, with the additions of the left pad being mapped to mouse wheel, the bumpers to spacebar and backspace, and the grips to back/forward.

Well, I am an (

I'll see how much I like it compared to my trusty X360 pad, but the design seems pretty similar. Should be an easy transition.
I'm not entirely sold on the touchpad thingy and was terrible with it the few times I tried it at expos, but reading henke's diaries it seems like it could potentially become great once I develop the muscle memory.

Henke ended up hating it, because, you know, he likes stabbing me IN THE HEART!
Me? When I played Bloodborne last week on the PS4, I found I didn't at all like using the right analog stick anymore. I missed the preciseness that little touchpad provides.
That said, as Henke has shown, some people just don't take to it. And there is a learning curve to it, so steel yourself for some spastic action when you first fire it up. The best way to start out is to set the sensitivity low until you start getting a feel for how it works, then slowly start bumping it up the more you adjust to it. Once you spend a few hours with it, you (maybe) won't want to go back to a standard controller.

Renz, I seem to remember you claiming that iPad action games with on-screen dpads control just fiiiiine as well, so I think you just have a higher aptitude for touch-based input than most people. Or at least more than me. I don't know what to say, man. You got the touch. You got the power. :erg:

I could use onscreen touch controls in a pinch, but I never did get really good with it.
...didn't you end up beating Wayward Souls?
henke on 12/10/2016 at 11:46
I did not. Only made it past the first or second boss, iirc.

I fiddled with it a bit and kind of enjoying it in lieu of mouse. But I was not brave enough to try Rogue Legacy with it... yet

You weren't much farther behind me. I think I'd only gotten as far as beating the 3rd boss.
I kinda miss that game, actually. They were supposed to release it for Windows, but never got around to it. They still have their teaser up saying it's coming soon for PC too, the bastards.

Rogue Legacy probably won't give you much problems, since the only difference between the SC and a regular controller is that the face keys are a little more down and to the left. Though it does have one advantage in that you can program those two back buttons (that I think all controllers should have now) to do all kinds of crazy stuff if you want to.
If there's one place where I think it's advertised abilities fall short, it'd be for mouse based clicker games, like Cities: Skylines and Pillars of Eternity. It works well enough you could get by in a desperate situation, but otherwise, I'd rather use a mouse for them.
