Is there such a thing in this day and age? I always assumed the pressure to get games out before all the creases were ironed out came from publishers rather than devs.
It does seem fairly common that publishers go "Ship the game with an 'acceptable' amount of bugs, as long as they don't actively destroy the system". Most developers just want to get paid so they can support their families, so when a publisher cracks the whip they jump. Of course, some developers are more skilled than others and can root out more bugs with the same amount of man hours.
Anyway, grabbed Shadow Warrior 2 and have been having a blast. I was a bit unsure around launch, so I held off even though I could have got it for 20% off then.

I don't know, I've been getting the impression lately that game designers hardly bother to test the basics, or the quality of tests has dropped alarmingly.
Yes, I do remember Daggerfall on release, but Bethesda were tiny then. There's no excuse for e.g. Fallout 4 to ship with a completely unusable control/UI scheme on PC, when it's the first thing any decent PC tester would surely have complained about it.

It may also come down to a decision between "shall we meet this unmovable deadline with no bugs and drop feature X" or "shall we get as many things that we wanted in as possible and patch up the bugs as quick as we can after release".
For me, I prefer the latter, since I rarely care too much about playing games immediately after release these days.

That's somewhat true, yes. Better to release it buggy than to go bankrupt because you didn't release it at all (and so earned no money on it.)
Some of the really obvious stuff that should have been fixed in early prototyping (like FO4's PC interface) managing to get into a production game still amazes me though.

Night Dive is encouraging people to pick System Shock 2 for the "Villain In Most Need of A Hug" award. If SHODAN wins, they'll "have a special treat for everyone." :erm:

...well isn't that what Early Access is for? What if Beth published under that label, hmm...

I agree. There's no getting around it...it's a combination of laziness and incompetence.
Back in the day, there was a higher bar...today, a Mcgamer can get his fingers in the pie.

Damn I'd pick SS2 for that but Caesar and Mr House really need hugs. I mean, the latter would literally die if you did that (there should probably a perk-based conversation option for it).

Does SHODAN need a hug, or The Many?
