i still stand by my first comment.
imagine this:
you're the new guy on the block at a big governemnt agency. now you're always rewarded by doing your job and doing it well. you can kill everyone and get the same reward as doing it stealthfully (excluding the ammo, skill points, im talking about Manderly and such). that's all when you're working for UNATCO. but once the shit hits the fan and suddenly you're dealing with aliens, robots, MIBs, MJ12 robo commanders, and tons of french police officers (especially them:mad: ) is crawling in the dark and using silenced pistols the most realistic choice? An autoshotgun with a few tweaks can take out ANY target in the game, can the crossbow? NO. can the silenced pistol? NO. stealth in DX is complete and utter bullshit. i love the game to death but JC as a ninja just doesnt make sense to me.:thumb:

Well, for those MIBs ...
If you kill a MIB/WIB, they fall down and explode. At short ranges, the explosion can hurt you especially in Realistic difficulty.
If you knock a MIB/WIB unconscious, they fall down and DON'T explode. And since they don't explode you can search them for the stuff they have.
Under most conditions, I like to knock out the MIBs quietly. But sometimes there are advantages to have them go out in an explosive death; for instance if the death explosion will hurt other enemies nearby. There was an ambush spot with 2 Commandoes and 2 MIBs. A single WP rocket is enough to kill the MIBs, which then explode taking out the by-then-injured Commandoes.
Exploding MIBs are nice when dealing with the storming of Paul's apartment. Even if they don't explode immediately from a WP round, they run around on fire and can end up exploding near other uninjured troops.
I have one burning question:
Anyone tried to use the riot prod on the greasels, small krakens, and most important, BIG KRAKENS?
Haunt-of-DOOM on 10/6/2003 at 03:29
Doesn't matter if he's in the corner, you have a Prod don't you?
Haunt-of-DOOM on 10/6/2003 at 03:31
You nearly _cant_ K/O a commando, I put like 4 tranquil rounds into him, and he didn't look like his health was even half gone.

I've just restarted (after months and months) and I'm trying to be 100% non-lethal (to humans anyway).
Thus I am only upgrading melee and pistol (for tranq darts).
I have some questions though-
1.What use is the pepper spray? I'm trying to use it with the baton but it takes ages to do the blinding and as soon as I hit them they snap out of of the pepper effect.
2.Baton? I'm trying to hit in the lower back as I've read that this is the correct method. It seems to work ony 50% of the time. Why not the head? Does advancing melee make any difference?
3.Tranquiliser darts. Does upgrading pistol decrease the time til knockout? Don't headshots kill? Do headshots really speed up the knockout process?
Does anyone have any tips for this style of play. I'll be a hacker and an electronics whizz. What augs should I use?

DX is a game whitch allows many styles of play, but personaly I hate to sneak Hate, HATE HaTe because unlike in real world in games it is hard to feel are u covered or not, will someone notice u or not (atleast for me and beginners), but the main thing is - this is not a real sneak, because u exploite the phisics and AI of the game, all AI has its rotes and basic behavior whitch makes them too predictable for those who want to know this in their sneaking.
My way is to do everything 100% so if I passed through some araea I know that it is secure (all hostiles are DEAD, turrets and robots destroyed or bypased)
For this work I prefer Sniper rifle with silencer, GEP with scope, and something for 3rd weapon.
For perfect example - Vandenberg ocean base landing - I destroed Bots with GEP gun and then sniped a horde of men siting on the coast with Snirper rifle on Master skill. Then I sniped down troops in head so far away than they heads was 1 pixel big on 800x600 with max zoom and took down all divers in water (with sniper rifle of caurse)
by these means I love to snipe from the roof of Vandenberg reserch center (or somth:confused:) - when I get on the ground there is no troops at all, except 2 comandoes on the enterance

SE:
Pepper spray: isn't that great...sort of like a micro-power micro-scale gas grenade. Generally best to forget about it.
Baton: You will have to upgrade your melee skill, or go for combat strength aug to get a higher percentage of knockouts. Or failing that, if you jump around a lot you can still knock out most AIs with about 3-4 hits. Or failing that, shoot them till they retreat, then a single hit from behind with the baton will usually get them.
Tranqs: Yeah, I think pistol skills have some bearing on knockout time. And headshots will result in quicker knockouts as well, I'm pretty sure.
As for playing styles...
Augs won't really affect your electronics and computer skills. If you want the stealth of a non-lethal character though, go for things like silent running, invisibility (though radar cloak is more useful for areas like the dockyards or Area 51, combat strength, vision enhancements (can see heat signatures through walls) or spy drone. And power recirculator if you want to use them often. Some of these are only really used in realistic difficulty, since it's pretty easy in other modes and you can do without them.

Baton is one slash KO even with standard melee skills. I always advance crouched and aim about between shoulder blades/general back region. Lower back works fine, too. Actually, I'll check that out;)
Yeah, I also think that higher pistol skills with trangs will knock the goons out faster. Head shots even faster. Can't confirm right now, since I usually leave pistol skills to trained for most of the game.
And yes, that pepper spray is pretty useless. If you attack the chaps with something after you gassed, tranged or peppered:p them, they sort of recover a bit and fire at you.

Why does everyone act like stealth and killing do not mix? Almost every time I play I go through as an extremely stealthy killer. If a person goes down without knowing that you were there and without alerting others, then that qualifies as stealth even if you make a whole lot of noise in the process. What does noise matter if no one can hear it? Stealth is about being quite when people are within earshot. In a game with as much space as Deus Ex, 50 feet just is not that long a distance. Take the very first NSF guy you encounter in the game (the one that walks right near the fallen cop). If you wait for the 2 NSF guys that patrol near him to get a reasonable distance away, you can shoot him in the head with your unsilenced pistol and no one will hear it. That qualifies as stealth as far as I am concerned (mainly because it takes stealth to sneak into a good spot so that you can see when the two guys near him are far enough away). I just get a greater feeling of satisfaction knowing that an individual will never be bothering anyone again so I prefer killing them. And having them die without even seeing it coming is not only more humane it is much more satisfying.

its funny when you knock out a guard with a tranq dart and when they're unconcious you waste entire clips of seven ought sixty two or sniper rifle rounds into their heads and the label still reads "NSF Terrorist (unconcious)". In Deux Ex you live in a world of betrayal, conspiracies, and...immunity when unconcious..."
