Which do you prefer?
As for me, I always go for stealth. I think the last time I killed someone was all the way back in the Ton' Hotel during the hostage crisis. The NSF was huddled away in the corner making a KO impossible.

bah gimme a sniper rifle and a gep gun and I have a lot of fun :)
tomi1kenobi on 16/5/2003 at 10:14
Generally stealth, except Mj12 commandos and some M/WiBs. This goes for creatures too. I dunno, it just adds somewhat to the game, trying to think different ways to deal with your opponents. But BryanN's way has it's points too:p
Btw, I managed to deal with the NSF guys at 'Ton without killing them. Can't actually remember the exact way, but the one with the male hostage can be tranged from the stairs leading to lobby. The other one should run out to inspect= same medicine. Like a big deal, I know.

The 3 NSFler in the hotel... the one at Mr. Renton will come out to investigate as soon as you make one little noise or approach the doorway into their room. Then you can prod him to take him out. (note: he seems to stay outside afterwards, so if you don't plan to interact with him at all, chances are good that he will now be out of the way, but you have those credit chits and the key).
Next, hop (while crouching) onto the railing of the stairs. Does not make enough noise to upset the ones upstairs. Crouch up, hop as silently as possible down to the floor of the 1st floor, and crouch up to the one with the male hostage. The male hostage will turn to you and warn you that these guys have guns, but the NSFler will not notice. Zap him with the baton, and leave back to the ground floor by hopping over the railing of the balcony.
Then off to the elevator shaft, climb up to the 1st floor, zap a tranq. dart into the one with the female hostage, and do something else (like, climbing up to get the multitool) for the 2 seconds until he is knocked out.
Clean and non-lethal.
Killer or Sneaker? Both can be fun. :)

I feel more accomplished when I do things stealthily.
You're a cop! Not a mercenary! The body count should be nothing more than zero!
Lytha on 16/5/2003 at 11:40
I don't know... i.e. I love to steal money from the ATMs, I love to read other peoples' emails, I love to piss off my superiours whenever I can (Simon comes into mind). I don't feel like a 'cop' in DX for sure.
However, I feel better if I avoid any NSF casualties, even the KOs (unless I really want some key, like the key in the tunnels to the airport, the key to the security room in the airport, or the key to the security towers in that map before the hangar.) This is partially because I enjoy ticking Anna off (Battery Park), watching Gunther vs the Snipers in the warehouse, or listening to that weird line of Manderley after the airport. ;)
For once gone rogue, I dunno. There is something definitely satisfying in headshots for MJ12ers, backstabs for the commandos, or dead karkians. For the greasels, I dunno, I am changing towards the position <i>"greasels are sooo cute"</i> now...
There is also something definitely satisfying in just letting the stupid guard stand there while stealing the items from right below his nose (Vandenberg has plenty of that), or by just letting Gunther stand around there like the dumb prick that he is... think about how bad he must feel if he *fails* his objective and remains alive. *snicker*
And then, you got those two horrible hostage situations later in the game (catacombs & Tiffany). I'd rather not spend the time trying to figure out a way to solve these without any casualties (either caused by the turret or by me), mostly because I became seriously pissed off when I tried to solve both in my 'pacifistic' trip through the game (final count 6 kills (5 for Tiffany), and 1 KO (guard in armory in prison escape); not counting casualties caused by turrets.)

I'm almost exclusively stealthy, but sometimes I kill people (stealthily, of course)

I remember someone mentioned that will good Pistol skills, you can knockout someone very quickly and quietly from range by headtranqing them in the head.
I didn't believe it until I headtranqed a MJ12 trooper in my last game --- the trooper took 5 steps and dropped quietly ... very useful tactic IMHO.
I generally prefer gas>tranqing or prodding M/WIBs cos they explode if killed (plus they aren't easy to headshot kill fast using the stealth pistol).

I play it the way i would like to think i would do it in real life.
*All conflict which may reasonably be avoided is.
*All use of force will be non-lethal unless the direct result of less definite action will be the death of a civilian or myself.
The minor exeption is occasional MIBs and MJ12 commandos getting sniped in situations were leaving then active would lead to a situation as described above since they are very hard to knock out. Basicaly if your going to have to kill him do it efficiently and in a controled manner rather then in a messy firefight.
[edit]
This quote from Gandalf in The Fellowship of the Ring sums up my view.
Quote:
Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends.
death is not a thing to be handed out lightly.

I hear that, bro. Playing the game suited to your own personality or style just adds so much to the immersion factor. DX is NOT another shootter among the million other games; it's something else, IMO. Then again, just like in Thiefs, you might and probably will at some stage get tired of sneaking around and decide 'The hell with it! Let's get messy'. That's OK by me, too. It's still just a game (hearing gasps: 'Blashphemy!')
