Hey guys,
It's been a long time, but posting back here on TTLG... Man, it's like coming home again.
Anyway, just wanted to say thanks for all the kind words about the stealth system. You know, we had a good model to follow, and I'm just glad I got the chance to offer my input so Oblivion could capture as much Thiefy goodness as possible. I also appreicate the props on the Dark Brotherhood and lockpicking (for those of you who don't, you know, completely hate it). :p
Garrett lives!!

EmilPags! :D
Yeah the Dark Brotherhood was my favorite guild. It's just so deliciously evil and messes with your head at times...you know the quest I'm talking about. The other guilds didn't interest me nearly as much. Except the thieves guild. But I haven't gone far through that one yet.

I tip my hat to you, Emil.
Indeed, I see the shadows of Garrett all over the place.:thumb:

Emilio! So glad you stopped by to bask in your accolades. I'm pretty picky about stealth in games, plus I whine and complain about all kinds of things in Oblivion (though it's still the best game ever made), but with the stealth I have no complaints, more than that I LOVE the stealth. If I had tried to imagine what would be the ideal stealth in Oblivion, if I were a billionaire and hired Bethsoft to make the game just for me :D , I couldn't have come up with anything half as good as what you ended up giving us. Thank you so much!

*sigh* Come on man. It wasn't perfect. Quit all that. It was about 1/2 as deep as Thief. There were SEVERAL elements missing. Distractions? Dousing? KOs? ETc...Etc...Etc...Step in the right direction and FAR better than Morrowind, but not nearly as crazy good as you drool on about.

Well, I think there are distractions. At least, if I ever miss an enemy with an arrow (especially an alert one) they go to were the arrow hit.
Knowing my wife this is an enormous compliment: The only game she has ever played single player by herself is the Thief games. She abhored Morrowind and all its makers for the countless hours I spent casting spells and picking flowers. For some strange reason she gave Oblivion a try (probably cause she knew from Morrowind that she wouldnt see me in a few months). But she LOVES it! She plays it just for the stealing. (at least at first). She went through every house in the imperial city one by one and picked locks and pockets and went through boxes. That was all she did. She wasnt going to worry about the quests at all cause she was having such fun just 'thiefing' until she became overencumbered and couldnt figure out how to sell stuff. After I pointed her to the Thieves guild she started questing a little and now she is hooked on the questing. She is actually starting to like the game as a whole now and it is all thanks to the stealth system.
She also laughed at me when I talked about the graphics and she kept saying "Doom 3 looks so much better". Once she got IN the game and started to understand the peoples schedules and the physics and the size of the world and the details... she started to change her mind on that too.
This may not seem like much, but I guess you have to know her. (for the sake of future games or possible expansions, it could use a tweak or two, but this is a fantastic game!) I had high expactions which are usually not met due to my own fault. This game blew all my expectations away. And thanks to mod support I can change anything I don't like:)
Bravo is a good word.

I'm playing a thief/mage character and find the stealth to be great. It's rewarding, useful everywhere (as opposed to select locations designed with it in mind) and, most importantly, fun. The Ultimate Heist is, for me, the closest any other game's ever gotten to the spirit of T: DP. Hat tips, etc. :)

Could've used a thief type of soundengine. The enemies can all too easily hear running even though the sound has to in reality travel a long distance for example in caves.

While sneaking around houses you best take off your boots althogether and dont run at all, works good even at low sneak levels
Love the stealth too. After i joined the guild and had access to a fence, nicking silverware and other stuff from peoples houses id normally deem worthless became really fun ^^

Thief had a great sound propagation engine, but the AI audio detection was less than perfect. Look, I'm in a factory filled with noisy machines and people walking around, yet guards instantly not only hear my footsteps over the din, but also know they're mine.
