Anyone else try to kill the Grey Fox, only to find out that you can only knock him out, and he just gets back up, and you knock him out again, and again and again, then reload cause you don't want to have to go through the hassle of having to pay 1000 gold to get back in the thieves guild.
I just wanted to kill him and become him!

That'll happen anytime you try and kill an important quest-related character. I backstabbed one of the Dark Brotherhood quest givers, and lo and behold he just fell asleep, woke up... and kicked my ass.

I'm a member of the thieves guild but need assistance:
Where on earth is the thieves guild? How to get missions from them
You have to do MISSION [independent thievery]
sell some stolen merchandise to the fence, then go back to your contact in the backyard @ midnight and ask him about advanced mission or somesuch. I believe it is only $50-$100 of stolen loot to activate the quests.
Thanks. Completely missed that.

I really think this engine could make a great Thief game. It already feels like it in so many places. The tombs probably bring it out the best. Sneaking around and silently sniping beasts while looting chests to extremely ambient music...
Sometimes I just feel like all we need is the great voice of Garret and some great mission briefings.
To comment on the sneak skill, I just posted elsewhere about it. In some places, I love it, in other places it just doesnt work.
I used stealth to win the grand championship in the arena. I only had to actually fight maybe two battles. The rest of the time I just hunkered down at my gate and kept firing X3 bonuses until they dropped. In the dark dungeons I can usually get repeated X6 bonuses while standing face to face with someone, and then 10 minutes later someone spots me from 50 feet away and starts attacking before I ever see them. So I think its buggy, but has great potential. I understand the 'rules' of lockpicking, but still find the window to click too small (especially at higher levels). At higher skill levels I believe that the tumbler should move slower. I love the posioning of the weapons, but I have had to poison each attack. Is there not a way, if I have 20 bottles of poision, to keep poisoning automatically until the bottles are gone? It is very repetitive after every swing to have to enter the controversial inventory screen and apply another coat before attacking. And maybe you find better poisons throughout the game, but I have found at higher levels that they just don't make a difference worth not selling the poisons.
All in all, I really enjoy the stealth aspects but there is much room for improvement, IMO.

I notice this too. I'm not convinced it's a bug or design flaw yet. Your chance of sneaking is less if the enemy has a high Stealth skill. I notice it's pretty hard to get one past an Imp, for example, unless their back is turned while you can creep right up in front of other enemies. My stealth is only a tad above 50 right now.

Dude, I was SERIOUSLY having to fight my ASS off at the default difficulty as a marksman....until this morning. I must have hit a sweet spot in the levelling system. I am like level 18 (and have been getting shitty multipliers.....mostly 2's and 3's , not power-levelling :erg: ) I also got a Dragon Bow. It does a base 12 damage and adds an area-effect 20' fireball that does a whopping 10 more points on anything in it's reach. Great when 2-3 monsters are racing at you as you backpedal. You don't even have to aim :D Anyway, even w/my non-magical bows (Dwarven, Elven, and FINALLY a Glass!!!) do a hell of a lot better now. I am taking stuff down in 1/2 the time, using the same tactics, weapons, and difficulty. I don't know if it's like the monsters "level off" as they level up, as opposed to me going up and up. Not complainin' though :thumb:
