Fixed.
I thought that Goldmoon Dawn was the Abomination Man, and Vae was his faithful sidekick, the Blasphemy Boy?
Back on topic, I got to say that I'm quite pleased with the customization options. There's just way too much stuff on the screen with all the UI things enabled - the mini-map especially is a blasphemous abomination - but since it looks like you can toggle on/off whatever you want, everyone should find their own preferred settings.
They still need to impress me with the actual gameplay (which is of course the most important thing), but at least I'm a little more optimistic about this game again.

Because, you know, checkpoint saves were totally a thing in the first two Thief-games! :erm:
In all seriousness, though. The custom difficulty settings are, at long last, something I feel positive about in this game. I've always loved the first System Shock for the amount of difficulty settings you could choose from and this seems to go into the same direction. There's still no way in hell I'll pay money for this or even bother to play it, but I'm kind of glad that they finally did SOMETHING right (along with overthinking their decistion to reward XPs for murdering NPCs).

The community is just full of constant hatred and bile for the new Thief, like it's the worst thing that could have ever possibly happened. I'm just sick of the constant bashing of the new game, even when there's good news, the focus is still on whatever perceived slight you found in the phrasing of the news, and not the actual positive changes. Most of you have made up your minds to hate it, so no matter what they do to the game at this point, you refuse to keep an open mind about it, because you don't want to be wrong.
Why do you need other people to like the game so badly? One of these days you'll have to come to terms with the fact that not everyone is going to like the same things that you do.
Personally, I'm keeping a very open mind. If the game turns out to be good, I'll spin on a dime and say that I was wrong. Hell, I would very much like to have a new Thief game to play with. Unfortunately, the reboot doesn't look like a very good Thief game to me. Should I close my eyes and pretend that the game is going to turn out alright, despite all the signs to the contrary? Why should I be interested in a generic modern content muncher that doesn't seem to have any of the magic of the original, that throws out so much of the design that I've enjoyed, that has such an uninspired art style, that introduces "cool" swearing and edgy characters? It smacks of a desperate attempt to appeal to everyone.

Don't forget the removal of the QTEs.

It's the usual dilemma, extreme opinions are perceived louder than down-to-earth ones even if negligible in quantity and weak in quality.
Actually, no...The most accurate insights resonate powerfully with truth...It is your own inability to effectively refute my points, that leaves you with weak excuses and erroneous conclusions.

Right on the money, Starker...I think this speaks to the general sentiment of the community...
We all want a great THIEF game, that is why we are passionate and discerning about it...The community has been waiting a decade for an actual THIEF game, one which embraces the design philosophy and unique cosmology that defines the franchise...not some generic, demagicalized, freedom-restricting stealth game with THIEF slapped on it.

That's why you get to remove them.
Just how dumb are you?
Brethren, those gifs show something pretty damn cool. Whatever you say about the rest of the game these guys are pulling out all the stops to make it as customisable as possible.

That's right, it's probably the most customisable game ever! And I'm happy of it like a little child right now.
More options = more playthroughs (assuming that Thief will be a good game, of course). Great news.

Actually, I wasn't complaining about being able to remove them, I was objecting to the way manual saves (relevant to the series) and checkpoint saves (irrelevant to the series) are thrown into the same pot.

Apparently too dumb to get a point across, but not dumb enough to pay money for this garbage.
Chade on 8/12/2013 at 22:43
Eh? What does being "relevant to the series" have to do with that text?
Here's what you need to convey: with the "chapter save only" option enabled, there are no manual saves or checkpoint saves.
Here's what EM wrote: Chapter Save Only: manual saves and checkpoint auto-saves are disabled.
What would you write?

I suppose it's the fact that this shouldn't matter at all that threw me. I didn't think anyone, even on this board, would whine about something so trivial.
Oh well.
