For those dreading The Shroud, you might want to check out (
http://forums.eidosgames.com/showpost.php?p=1965160&postcount=13) this post on the official forums. Apparently the shroud's effect has been reduced quite a bit since E3. We'll only know for sure when we get our hands on the game, but notice that in both of the screenshots, the light gem indicates you are in complete darkness, but the shroud is almost unnoticeable in the 2nd screen.

The actual shroud part of it has been reduced to a point where I don't even see the point of it's existence anymore, but the bright flash and desaturated dark blue tone the screen takes while in the shadows looked exactly the same last I saw it.

I like the sound of those in-game options available to turn off. In-game prompts, mini-maps, ability to make NuGarrett shut up and not give hints to puzzles, threat icons and health meters... Ah, now if they could remove that shroud effect and NuGarrett's hands poking out during gameplay and this failed excuse of a reboot will feel a bit more closer to an actual Thief game in regards to gameplay.
Something I find quite peculiar however, is the fact you need to use 'Focus Points' in order to turn things like Focus mode and the aiming reticle for the bow off. Will this be some form of in-game currency you receive while playing or do we have to cough up actual money for these 'Focus points' via micro-transactions of some sort?
EDIT: Never mind. Just found out the focus points are related to online leaderboards:nono:

Stop being so Elitist Brethren.
If you can play the game classic style why do you care how others want to play it?

Try not to shill so hard.

No, we're all buying and playing this game. That includes you Gabucino. :grr:

Besides, Brethren can't be elitist & a shill at the same time. =V
Or, you know, people giving their opinions don't have to be part of some conspiracy. They could just be giving their opinions.
I appreciate the options. It'll make it more fun for me if I get around to playing it, and I anticipate it'll be like Dishonored in that way. I think even with the options T4 is still going to be rather mainstream with the contemporary gaming culture, and there isn't much use raging against it because it's all more or less predictable at this point. I mean it's up to each person how they want to approach it, but I'm keeping expectations modest & putting my hope for gaming inspiration in the indie scene.

I don't know about that. Let's get the player classifications right:
(in ascending order of stupidity)
-
clever (shill): advocating a shit game (if you took money for it, earn the "Spineless" trait on top of having a broken and unhealthy view of the world)
-
idiot with no self-respect: knowingly playing a shit game
-
consumerist zombie beyond saving and/or
brain tumor subject: knowingly playing a shit game that you paid for
If I send this in as a vote, would someone be so kind as to approve it?

You could just superimpose 'people' atop of where Brethren wrote 'we' and be done with it. That way you don't need to fancifully indulge in conspiracies of actual fraud.
Okham's razor and all that. Do the simplest thing first. If it works, you're done.
p.s. Shroud looks like a nice way to impart feedback to the player and seems pretty subtle to me. Don't know why you can't turn it off when the other options are so comprehensive, but I'd not lose sleep over it. But if you want to write a lengthy missive home to Ma and Pa complaining about how T4 ruined your week because it had a subtle vignette at the edge of the screen - go ahead. I'm sure they'll understand.
