I am planning to create a static mesh library where everybody can upload his custom smeshes. I hope that it will be a big database sometime. What do you think of that idea?

Just what I always wanted from day 1 :thumb:

Great idea! Would it be possible to make it part of the wiki?

hehe... The static meshes will have to be zipped before and can be uploaded via an easy formular, where you can also add entries like "name", "author", "Polys", "Size", "comment" and a picture. At least thats how i am planning to do it.
I hope that the page will be ready in the next 2 to 3 weeks. If not, you may blackjack me... ;) There will probably be not much of a design, because i want to put my energy into my FM and my smeshes! :cheeky:
EDIT: That wiki thing... Hmn i think we could add a link to the page in the static mesh introduction, but a real part of the wiki would be harder to realize i think. But i am not the host of the wiki. Ask him! :)

I hope you're going to call it "FleshMesh". I think that's a great name for a static mesh repository.

I thought of something rather simple like "T3 static mesh library", but i guess "fleshmesh" or better "fleshmeshes" would be a good name too.

Well, there is a fair amount of room for files in the wiki directory, within reason. However, I don't think we'd have anything like an upload system, given the small number of custom meshes so far. It would be fine to just send files to me, or point me to their location and I can put them on a wiki page for now - the author can then add a description of some sort.
I think that would do for the time being.

hmn but the time will come when there are loads of smeshes... So i think ill host that page. Why not... I have 2 gig of webspace, like i said, and i want to use it... Why not for a smesh library?

It really doesn't matter where the files are - there could be an interface in the wiki just so it's all integrated there.
Of course there is no reason why you can't go ahead and get something of your own working, it's just convenient to have information in the same place.

I think it would be better to have a dedicated mesh library, that can be linked to from the wiki if necessary. That way the library can be made more robust than a simple set of download links, such as by using a database backend to organise the meshes and associated information (pictures, dimensions, author etc).
