Well, just don't take it personally. I am aware I'm being a totally unlikable knob, and may also upset some people, but I don't want that. At the end of the day despite what anyone else says, do whatever it is you truly desire to do whether that be watching Hannah of Yogscast play Uncharted 4 or personally enjoying Tomb Raider 2013 and not taking much an issue with it. The games both do have their merits, as sparse as they may be.
You're aware you're being an "unlikable knob" at the same time as saying you don't want to upset people? You can see it's a confusing position to maintain perhaps?

Having played both extensively, I always found Deus Ex's stealth to be a pale reflection of Thief's.
It mostly feels like a game of hiding behind things, rather than Thief's more complicated system of light and shadows. Sometimes shadows make you a bit harder to see in DX, but mostly it's just about blocking line of sight. Sound and sound surface were less important, instead you just crawled everywhere. The AI is also much more basic, lacking Thief's more nuanced systems of alert levels, searching, etc.
Maybe it had a lot of Thief's systems, but they weren't as nuanced and finely tuned as Thief's systems.
It's Garrett's only particular power. He has to have the guarantee of turning invisible in shadows or the game doesn't work. I'm find that in Dishonored for example, it's the same problem you're describing. Pure stealth is hard because you have no reliable indication of visibility. There's no ability to be right next to an opponent in shadow and not be seen. I guess it's more realistic stealth gameplay, but it means the experience isn't the same.

I'm struggling to think of anything that Thief has in core systems or mechanics that Deus Ex doesn't, also with the same level of attention to detail. Deus Ex has all the things Thief is hailed for in that regard: the light levels influencing visibility, the different floor textures producing variable noise, the ability to come up with creative solutions and so on.
So others are rightfully taking you to task for all the detailed ways in which this is wrong, but the single biggest difference between Thief and Deus Ex is Thief is built to make those mechanics shine, while in Deus Ex they just ... exist ... alongside a bunch of other stuff. You can't analyze a game be simply chopping it up into it's individual components, in much the same way you can't glue a head, torso, and four appendages together and call it human.
Anyway, your basic point that Thief is more streamlined and in some ways more mainstream friendly is entirely accurate as far as it goes ... but it's not the whole story. Thief strongly encourages a play style that requires patience, delayed gratification, and a great deal of tension that can drag on for a long time before getting resolved, which obviously isn't such a mainstream proposition. I think you can see in the marketplace that the tendency is for mainstream games to have a "broad umbrella", and give you lots of options (including some suitably glorified stealth options) in order to broaden the appeal, rather than streamlining things by focussing on a single play-style.

For anyone else bored of GMDX's rolling algorithmic responses, don't forget that handy TTLG ignore list function. Works wonders for the signal:noise ratio.
Cripes. This is coming from the guy who still "debates" T_T.

For now.

Let's not start something else in this already compromised thread. I'm already disappointed with the way it turned out :(

You can at least take solace in the fact that EvaUnit02 hasn't shown up to offer his views on Tomb Raider and Uncharted.
Yet.

This is why I've started using the ignore list - reduces the risk of too much noise.

I don't think I can do that as an Admin really, I'm supposed to be making sure you all behave...
I'd have been annoyed if it was someone else's thread too.

Did you opt for some rehashed copypasta shite like Uncharted 4? Poor bastard.
Tomb Raider 2013 is what the UnSharted games should've been.
