That or it was "true love" between her and the hero's father.

On second thought I think it does give a reason.
[spoiler]There was one of those fairy-tale conditions on her bondage. 'Until the moons loses her daughter to ...' So sleeping with Tristran Dad (as a means to give birth to Tristran) was part of a plan to free herself, and get a happy ever after for the Kingdom.
There was also, in the book, a conspiracy trying to do some kingship related things. Various people help Tristran because they know his lineage, even though he doesn't.[/spoiler]
