I did a search and couldn't find anything about it, so I thought I'd make a thread.
Saw this on Friday at the Cinema, wasn't sure what to expect but had heard good things about it, "best thing since Princess Bride" etc.
Its a fun film to watch, certainly one of the better films I have seen recently. There weren't as many memorable lines as in the princess bride, but it was still a funny film (and it has pirates!)
Has no-one else seen it and made a thread about it, or did no-one else like it?

I loved it. I didn't make a thread about it, though. ;)

Like I told my friend, where else are you going to see DeNiro as a gay pirate?
I dragged my wife out to see it the day it opened here and she loved it as much as I did.
Only issues I had that I can remember off the top of my head was that Yvaine's first line was cut(I think that's a character defining moment), and they changed Tristran's name, but those make zero difference unless you've read the book.

Was he supposed to be gay, or just a tranny? I don't remember anything in the film which said either way tbh.
A very funny performance anyway :)

Neil Gaiman adaptation, right? Everyone I know has seen it, so I guess I'll probably catch it on DVD.

Is the movie any better than the book?
Turtle on 29/10/2007 at 23:45
That depends on your initial outlook.
Did you like the book? (I think I can infer the answer to this question.)
You would probably enjoy it more if you saw it with a person with whom you had a romantic relationship, or the potential for said type of relationship, or who you would maybe just like to fill out like an application.

I didn't have the courage to ask Dave out to Stardust while we were in san fran, so we went to see the third Bourne movie instead :(

The film was fine! I missed some parts of the story, so I'd say reading the book is a must to get the whole story right, but it was not as crippled as I heard it would be.
By the way: Did anyone see the Neverwhere series? I only read the book a couple of times and love it, I wonder if the series is any good.

Neverwhere was unmistakably a low-budget British fantasy show, but it was reasonably enjoyable from what I remember. I'd love to see a version with a decent special effects budget.
