I wonder why people bother translating movie character names in other languages. I can understand the title of the movie being translated, but where the fuck does Fener come from? What's wrong with reading subtitles? And who the fuck are (

He's an illfated romanian immigrated in Italy, and he's trying to get success "singing" some rap song. Here we all are mocking him. :laff:

Consider that many of the Star Wars character names are lifted almost directly from other languages, eg Vader = Vater (German: father).

Is it? I'm not so sure. Perhaps it just sound similar.
Kolya on 21/10/2009 at 20:05
Just of the top of my head and only the German ones:
Boba Fett (German: fat)
Han Solo (German first name: Hans)
Darth Maul (German: chops, mouth)
Boss Nass (German: wet)

It's pretty simple. Most Darths are simply shortened and skewered forms of 'evil'-ish adjectives. The naming convention is one of the more half-baked and childish ideas in Lucas's universe, as I'm sure everyone who's ever moved on in life from My Big Book of Fairy Tales would agree.
Vader = Invader, Sidious = Insidious, Malak = something bad, I suppose, as that's what 'mal' literally means hence its use as a prefix in words like maleficent, malicious, malodorous, etc.
I don't need to explain what Darth Maul means, do I? Sexy bastard, though. Must've been the red skin.
And Kolya's translation up'n above there. <3

In the original French SW:ANH, Darth Vader is Dark Vador, Han Solo is Ian Solo, Chewie is Chico and the Millenium Falcon is the Millenium Condor. C3PO is Z6PO. Alderaan is pronounced Aldorande and the Death Star is the Black Star.
Chewie is Chewie and the Falcon is the Falcon in the other two films. Holy continuity, Batman! The Death Star is called that only in RotJ, and it is never referred to as the second Death Star, ever.
True story.
Those were the days ;)
