I understand that it's "correct" chronologically, but when I learned that a friend of mine had watched the prequels and had yet to get to the original trilogy, I was like "NOOOOOOOOOO NOW YOUR VIEW IS FOREVER SKEWED."
Of course, I then realized that was a bit silly - Star Wars is so ingrained in popular culture that it's impossible to experience them "freshly" as those in 1977 did.

I didn't found the prequel so bad, apart from that horrible Jedi's animatronic remake of "The Phantom Menace".

What makes you think he's YOUR massi?

I agree that the prequels aren't the trainwreck many people make them out to be (yes, including The Phantom Menace) but at the end of the day I think that, while there are some good ideas, themes, scenes, etc, the overall script - specifically the dialog - just can't compare to the originals*
*I recognize that one could easily consider one of the prequels as better than ROTJ, and recognize this as legit.

Am I supposed to rant about Jar Jar here, or should I wait until page 2?
You can rant now.
Personally, I started giving up on Star Wars (and Lucas) around 1980. The appearance of Jar-Jar was the final nail in the coffin of the whole
fucking money-grubbing cash cow franchise, and I haven't seen any of the films since.

You didn't like Empire, then?

I saw The Hidden Fortress yesterday. That's the Kurosawa film that Lucas supposedly based Star Wars on. I gotta say, if The Hidden Fortress was made directly into a Star Wars film it would be one that had two Jar Jar Binks and only one Han Solo in it. I guess the two protagonists were kinda an inspiration for C3PO and R2D2 but they are just so fucking annoying that the comparison isn't fair. The film focuses on these two idiots while Toshiro Mifune's badass samuraidude runs around doing all kinds of badass Han Solo shit in the background and I just wanna scream at the director to focus on that guy in the background instead. Still, there were a few good scenes in it.
