If they do make 3 new movies, I wonder if they're going to be prequels to the prequels of the first 3 movies. Imagine all the names they could give.
Star Wars: Teenage Sith Syndrome
Star Wars: Puberty Years
Star Wars: The Pimples Strike Back
Star Wars: Embryo-Vader
The list could go on and on... :D

I'll give them 5,4 and 3 but not 2 and 1, because of Tim Zahn.

Sincerely doubt there will be sequels. The prequels work because the pre-Star Wars canon was (largely) left unfilled. But every single year of the lives of the principal Star Wars characters is mapped for the next 20 years or so in the post-ROTJ canon. Lucas would have three options:
A. Adapt existing works (Thrawn trilogy, etc.) into a film series
B. Make sequels that featured original characters only in cameos, if at all
C. Completely violate the entire canon
I doubt he'd do B because, marketing sense aside, that's essentially what is being done with the TV series (which sounds quite promising, particularly since they are letting non-Lucas writers in to play). And as cynical as everyone is about Lucas, I doubt he'd do C - he's spent years profiting off this canon and in many instances being directly involved in it, and I just don't think he's quite a big enough jerk to piss off every last remaining Star Wars fan.
Then there's the whole issue of, you know, the ORIGINAL ACTORS BEING OLD. He couldn't pick up where ROTJ left off unless he re-cast all the characters, and for something as iconic as Star Wars that would be difficult indeed. So it would have to take place 30 years after, far into masses and masses of built up canon...is that during/post Yuzhan Vong(sp?).
I was on top of this shit until around 1998, then I lost interest and there have subsequently been another 500 novels published. Ugh.

Why? Just because they are producing the tv series (really?? :wot:) doesn't means that the Lucas's team could follow too the canon.

Yes. Too bad. :(

Not saying it would be easy peasy but it can be done. Star Trek pulled it off. A Thrawn trilogy would be awesome.
at one non-negotiable condition:
WITHOUT Lucas being allowed anywhere near the set.
