Wasn't there originally a plan for nine SW movies?
Yeah, but Lucas reconsidered that after having a dream in which the little green bugger Yoda revealed him he'll be killed by heart attack while directing Episode 9 in his age of 92.

I second Shugs. Jar-jar is the best character. Well, right after Boba and Jango. Lando is pretty cool in a subtle way too. Anyone with stupid vowels, lack of vowels or stupid apostophies in their name clearly sucks the big ones. And what race is Ackbar again?
I'm pretty darn sure Shug was being sarcastic.

Really? I though he was being 100%, absolutely, completely, 10/10, 12 eggs to the dozen, 3 asshats to a thread serious.
Aaaanyway - I agree with so much you posted Scots. Why, oh why can film makers not see the opportunities they have and miss? It's like the lack of hallucinogenic fight scene at the end of Batman Begins. Ok, that's slightly different but still.

That's because GL's not a filmmaker any more. Empire and Jedi had different writers and directors on board (people who were actually good at the job, much better than Lucas, especially Kirshner). The prequels were all written/directed by GL, with only Clones having a co-writer. This is the problem, because while he used to have talent and passion, his motivations and skills have changed entirely in the decades since he made the first SW film. The evidence of his last three films shows that, as a filmmaker, he is appalling. He took some great, imaginative material and a fairly interesting and just-complex-enough story, and delivered it all in the most stultifying, charmless way. If he'd been humble enough to hand the material to more talented writers & directors, we could have had another three great movies, but clearly he's become too big for that. CHRIST ALIVE WHAT A CUNT.
The alarming poorness of the prequels is only magnified when viewed alongside the excellent animated Clone Wars series.

In one of the interviews with GL (special features disc), Lucas says that his 'guest director' was Spielberg. Why oh why then did someone not just lock GL in a closet and let Spielberg take over??? And don't tell me that it was because everyone would have been afraid that SW3 would've turned out like AI.
At the very least SS could have just directed the cast/crew & let GL handle the cg stuff & nothing else.

Cmon, it's his own personal universe, he can pervertise it if he really wants to.
Is pervertise a word?
Dia on 9/3/2006 at 14:27
It is now.
(You don't mind if I borrow it, do you?)

Well, 'pervert' would have done fine, but if we're talking about perversion then I think you can use whatever new word you like. ;) Pervertify or pervertrate would work too I think.
I agree with you absolutely, BR - and by the same token, if he insists on showing the world his costly ineptitude, then the world is perfectly entitled to remark on what a wasteful, talentless buffoon he is. I'm not a Star Wars fan, but I do like good movies, and I hate it when idiots waste good material - misguided by ego or profit projections (in this case I believe both, or maybe just the former) into putting pure garbage onto our screens, and expecting us to reimburse them for their contemptible efforts. Harumph. I imagine I'll be just as nice about the Wachowskis when they finally pluck up the courage to show us what they did to V For Vendetta.
And Dia, I'm not a Spielberg fan either, but I believe your suggestion would have improved the prequels immeasurably.
