I just hope they don't make the films for kids. The worst excesses of the follow up trilogy was definitely the attempt to create a new generation of SW fans. Also giving the aliens regional accents rather than opting for the cool weirdness of e.g. Mos Eisley cantina was a big fucking no no.
"See, SEE! you can tell he's an alien, because not only does he have little wings to hover with, but he has a campy Italian accent. ITALIAN I TELL YOU!"

Not so sure how well Little Miss Sunshine, Toy Story 3, and Brave will translate to writing a good Star Wars movie.
Simple! The
garbage incinerator scene in Toy Story 3 was even more tense than the garbage compactor scene in A New Hope. Therefore this will be even better than A New Hope.
trust me on this ok

I say again for the record - there is no good end to this. No one wants new actors that don't heark to the original story - we've been down that road and it sucked. No one wants anyone else to play the original characters. No one wants to see the original cast playing the same characters in their 60's. There are no other options and anyone being optimistic is doing so simply to play devil's advocate against the purists. Goody for you - you're the lone voice of reason amidst the howling mob, but you're still an idiot. This shit just needs to stop. The story is over, the books have expanded on the rest of the universe, there is nothing left to do. Except make money. And don't give me this crap about how all movies want to make money. All movies that are GOOD try to make art FIRST, and if you're lucky the money follows. JJ Abrams doesn't make art. He makes money. He also doesn't write stories. He throws a plastic bag of shit against a wall and keeps whatever sticks, with no rhyme or reason. Star Wars is over. Just like the Beatles and Firefly. LET IT GO.

Thank you! That's what I've been saying all these years!

Yep. Star Wars is dull now. I'm so sick of Star Wars stuff that I'd struggle to watch the original three again.
Find something new already.

No, I don't think he was speaking for people who were fundamentally allergic to the entire concept of Star Wars in the first place.

Fett, at risk of stating the bleeding obvious, the studio would be happy to make a bag of shit endlessly and re-release it..As long as it makes money, who cares if it's art from their perspective.
I can't help but think George was way too successful for his own good. He admits these were only supposed to be saturday morning serial adventure type movies, but the hardcore fans have turned it into something more..
I dunno, part of me agrees with Fett and everyone, just let it die, but part of me thinks completely new stories of Jedi v Sith, smugglers and bounty hunters and smaller stories could be cool. And I say that as someone who reckons Eps 1 and 2 are awful (but 3 is brilliant in my view..with flaws..the whole Jedi not questioning the clone army thing is still very silly writing). In essence, the brand was raped by Eps 1 and 2, but they might as well make some movies which are actually good to claw back some storytelling kudos. Just make sure George is nowhere near the thing.
Just letting it die would be fine with me too though.

For me, the whole setting is tired. I thought this when playing Knights of the Old Republic... "Hey, wouldn't this be better if they'd had just a little more freedom to not have to conform to Star Wars tropes?" (Probably why I enjoyed Mass Effect so much more.)
It is purely about the money. If they wanted to make art, they'd start with a blank canvas - a new space fantasy IP, or even just adapt some of the endless sci-fi literature that's never been filmed. It's about charging people for the brand recognition.

I won't say any of the above negative comments are wrong, but...are you guys telling me you won't actually go see it when it comes out? :erm: Riiiiiiiiight.... You'll be forking out your $10-15 like everyone else.
