I've put instructions on how to get Schism to work (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1307535#post1307535) here, and yes it requires the LoadFromResourceBlockFiles=True line to be commented out in the user.ini. As you can see from there, there are still a few issues to be ironed out.
Obviously these are specifically for Schism, but hopefully it will give us a handle on what's required in the future.

Glaswolf, that's awesome man, great work. it sounds like maybe the way to go for PC set up is to have the game and editor in the same directory. the poll shows a few of us have run it this way. setting up with editor and game in same folder would already put those files in the right place would it not? along with anything else that would be needed. the question is this: do the editor and game both work this way as well as in separate directories. I remember the read me from the editor when we first got it saying that you had to run them in different directories. if it works in one I say that's the way we should go. what do you think?
oh and thanks again.

yeah, having the editor and game together means some of this goes, but it also means that you're stuck with your own setup of things - you'll miss any changed staticmesh collision options (tested) and reskins (not so sure on)...
Just leaves us on a slightly different set of problems I guess, especially since people (well, ProjectX, and maybe a few others) have found GarretLoader doesn't play nice with T3 yet.

Hmmm, the installer I'm building is going to assume a separate install for the editor. Basically, I don't want to run into any issues with custom content. If this can be worked out, in a single folder install, I'll make the appropriate adjustments.

Well, I'm not very technically savvy so I am certainly no authority upon wich to make these decisions so, if Z-man says that running that way makes other problems and isn't really better then I'll bow to his superior knowledge. I was just trying to apply some logic to what I've been reading. so how much of the editor do we need to copy over? I think I'll try some experements tonight. I'm gonna start with Glaswolf's set up to ensure I'm starting from a working base.

To find out what actually needs to be moved for you, use the t3mainOptVersion.exe instead of t3MainReleaseVersion. Your save games folder will have a file called t3main.log at the bottom of which should be what it is currently missing, though you'll have to run the game a lot to get everything that way.
And as Glaswolf already found, if you do it that way, the custom scripts don't work and the front door is impassible (well, in the specific sense of Schism, I doubt it will generically inhibit front doors to places :P).

I haven't played any FMs yet, just because I fear they might leave behind unwanted custom stuff or setup changes.
I didn't follow the threads about the different FM loaders/installers, so what I'd like to know is: are we already able to install and remove FMs in a way that completely restores the original state of the editor installation afterwards, like Darkloader does?
Ziemanskye on 4/8/2005 at 21:57
In theory, yes.
GarrettLoader backups up anything it finds in the FM zip file, then extracts the FM, then removes whatever the mission installed and returns whatever it backed up when you exit.
I don't know how reliable it is, and Townhouse isn't set up correctly for GarrettLoader (though there are reports it works okay, I think that was mostly with people who didn't run it on the editor install, so they wont have minded so much if something got left behind, so long as the original functionality was restored), so might leave stuff behind, while Schism is just not working in general.
Krellick's Labyrinth I'm not qualified to comment on, though there was mention that it was almost finished, so the old test version isn't really applicable anyway.

This, to me, is the big question. It's great for us if we can run the FMs by installing the game and editor in a single folder, but if folks without the editor need to download a few hundred megabytes before they can play, maybe we need to find a better way. :p I'll reserve judgement until nobody does his experiments.

This is why I'm working on an installer. The installer size is 80 megs smaller than the zipped editor currently available. If there is anything that isn't absolutely needed for the installer, I'll remove it to save space.
