I love this game. No other game I've played has felt so real in terms of atmosphere. Like someone posted earlier, I love how you never really feel 'safe' unless near a base / trader of some sort.
I absolutely hate some of the mosters (Snorks anyone?), in the sense that they make me want to run away, rather than just assess how many rounds they take to drop.
It has to be said though that the real game starts after you get to the bar. Before that, things can drag a little and you do get your arse kicked with alarming regularity, but after that and especially after you get your first scoped weapon, you start to feel like part of the world - like Stalker in fact.

I just started the game a few nights ago, and totally agree on the "unsafe" feeling. For me it's the first game to effectively do that since...dare I say it, System Shock 2.
I'm really enjoying it so far.

I agree that it does recall SS2 to mind, but on a larger scale. The respawns, the feeling of not being well supplied enough (like if you're using 5.56 ammo in an area where your foes predominantly carry 5.54) and the revisiting of various different areas.
I love the way the game makes you listen to the sounds around you to hear what might be near you being dangerous, which is good enough in itself, but then when some of the ambient sounds make you drop to a crouch and scan the horizon, which is too dark to see anyway (if you're using dynamic lighting) and you;ve got easily the most atmospheric game that's been made for AGES.

Absolutely. I was so excited when I saw all the different ammo types that the game uses. So much more depth and situations that require tradeoffs to be measured. It was like, the anti-DX:IW syndrome. I just got a hold of a monstrosity of a pistol that uses an ammo type that I have no clue how I ended up with since I haven't encountered any more since I started using the pistol. Of course I don't make it any easier on myself.
"Nah, I don't need to carry a different one...I'll just use it in emergencies right? like...right now right? RIGHT?"

Also, the fact that when you are deciding whether to switch to a new weapon, you weigh up the pros and cons. Like "well, it does more damage, but has lower accuracy" and you wonder if the pay off of doing more damage is worth lower probability of hittig your enemy.
I also love the realistic(?) weapong accuracy. Everything about this game just oozes style and I really enjoy playing a game that credits me with having some skill and guile.

To me it is a no brainer to pick the weapon with the most damage if I'm inside a building where there are no distances that I have to worry about. For outdoors I'd pick a weapon that has both good damage and accuracy, though accuracy is a slightly bigger importance.

Well at the moment, I'm packing a Vintar sniper rifle, GP37 AR and silenced Kora pistol which seems to cover most situations nicely. I'm getting very attached to the sniper rifle, I have to say.

The Vintar is a lovely gun, it sends some luvin' right through your enemies.

Awwww jaaaaaa.
I especially love the "Where the fuck did that come from!?" initial response.
