I just got a new comp so I'm replaying stalker in HD. When I installed the thing I had the problem of the game going black and not loading on start-up. I edited my user.itx and changed it to my default desktop res (widescreen) as well as doing the -nointro command on startup.
Anyway your problem sounds a little more complicated. You do get the main menu right? Try to disable (
http://www.tweakguides.com/STALKER_10.html) intro video and see if that helps. The analog imput message should just be the standard black screen on your lcd when the comp isnt turned on. AVG gives a lot of false-positives, try another virus scanner.

But first he should turn on "60Hz frequency" option in the advanced video settings. I guess it's turned off.

Thanks for all the help.
I'm about to give up on this. I installed the latest version of DirectX figuring because older games work fine, maybe that would help. It didn't.
I then ran Dxdiag and passed all the tests, however in the 3D tests the spinning MS logo spun around at about 1000 miles per hr. Very strange.
Anyway I still wonder why older games work fine and newer games don't. Do you guys think it's the GPU or am I missing something stupid?
BTW; I did try to overide the refresh rate through CCC and that didn't work either. Don't know what else to try.

Did you turn on "60Hz frequency" in the graphics options in the game?

No I didn't try that yet. I uninstalled the game. Will give a a shot.
Thanks.

LCD is a dead-end way because the principle of picture creation itself is unnatural to human eye.
I'm seconding that "what". If anything, you'd think an LCD would be more natural considering it displays a constant image as opposed to a CRTs flickering updates.

I suspect he means that one uses light beams and the other uses some semi backlit, semi-chemical colour arrangement. The first is kinda more like just straight looking at stuff in a sense, but that's not all there is to it. If that's what he's saying.
(Me, I think LCDs are cheap-ish stopgap technology until something better and flat becomes cheaper like Plasma monitors or such. They're the VCD of display technologies; compromised and unloveable, could never be long term. If you've got a decent crt monitor, ride it out as long as you can.)

Plasmas are dead end considering their terrible energetic demands. However if they manage to reduce the consumption, it could have perspective. I've also heard the plasma TVs can damage eyes but my research doesn't go that far.

Ok, I mean that in nature, in absolute majority of cases, the image is formed by light either emitted directly or reflected. LCD forms the image by refracting light beams, LCD pixels don't emit light, hence all their problems with color rendition, color distortion depending from viewing angle, physical absence of black color.
Plasma or OLED are perspective technologies, but LCD isn't. Moreover, LCD is a step back in technological progress from CRT in terms of image rendition, they overcame CRT only because of secondary reasons, and I'm quite annoyed with that.

Energetic, ecological and ergonomic reasons can be secondary only to clueless consumers.
