They spilled it out like ages ago. We are just ignorant about the official sources, it seems.
They've explained in later interviews that it isnt the true meaning, that you have to finish a "true ending" to get what it means.

I actually consider that five of the seven possible endings are basically the same as dying. The only difference is that you see a nice cutscene, and then the credits.
