Plus, the big patch (1.1) won't contain bugfixes, just the freeplay mode, and the extreme difficulty, but features similar to those are already available in some mods.

do steam games work well with mods? I know there were some issues with D2D and oblivion...

hmm, i won't pay double. own the retail version and use no-cd.
game had never any problems for me but I know of many who weren't that lucky. 1.0003 fixed many things, 1.0004 has introduced new ones I heard :(

Umm, on second thought, my assumption indeed makes little sense. I thought they released the 1.0004 patch specifically because they wanted to fix everything they can before they start finalizing the 1.1, which will be just an addon ... but as I read through the dev posts I can't find where they say that the 1.1 won't include bugfixes, so maybe I just misinterpreted it...
