S.T.A.L.K.E.R. nights - by Angel Dust

One of the things that I hear that some people don't like about S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is that the nights are too dark and as there is no sleep function that they would have to wait around until day before doing anything. I just want to know how dark it is suppossed to be because on my computer its still fairly bright (not like real night at all but definitely darker than the day sections). I don't need to use my flashlight (the only place dark enough for that so far is the underground at Agroprom).
So where these people whining or are my gamma settings screwy?

Do you play with dynamic or static lighting? I heard nights in dynamic mode were considerably darker than with static lighting.

If you're using the default gamma setting, then the nights will still have enough light, and you won't need the flashlight. Especially if you have a LCD monitor. With a CRT monitor the nights are very dark, even with the default gamma settings. I have reduced the gamma in my game, so that nights are indeed as dark as they're supposed to be. There's no point in having day and night in the game if you hardly notice any difference between them.

Guess I'll fiddle with the gamma then. Oh and I am using static lighting, until I get my new 3d card for my birthday that is!

I use CRT and full dynamic lighting and I think the nights are unusually bright, even at their darkest peak between 22.00 - 02.00 in game. But I don't mind, otherwise I wouldn't be able to see anything.

I noticed a considerable difference when I changed from my old 17" CRT to a 19" LCD. Of course, that might also be due to different monitor settings.
I simply lowered the gamma setting a bit, and that was enough to make the nights darker, enough that the flashlight and night vision are actually useful, and I believe that this is probably how things should be.

I find both nightvision modes quite annoying. :p

The green one is annoying, but the blue one is very useful. And it makes it easier to detect certain anomalies, like the Burner.

gotta love the blue one. and the red one as well. green gives me headaches and has inferior resolution.

Red? Where do you get red nightvision from?
