Stalker: Lost Alpha is officially 'frozen' (sounds like a polite way of saying 'dead' - by Vivian

Hey - quick question about this mod. I have tried it a few times now, and I have to say that the story is absolutely fucking awful. And awfully implemented. And actually ruins it. Is there anyway to just get rid of all the cutscenes and stuff?
Holy shit,
Still alive? Is anyone else still on here?
Okay so now that hte mod has been out for a while and the NDA I signed is only valid for more specific things I guess I could say some things. Although GSC still have my details on their system and it's all sort of very uncertain now. Back to the mod:
I never tested the story, that wasn't my job. I only tested map layouts and looked for mistakes within maps. Or things that didn't make sense. It didn't help though as nobody ever took my advice. I doubt you can disable the storyline without major rewriting. Rather try something like Call of Chernobyl then.

Arhg, sorry - just moved that post to what looked like a better home for it! Oops. Yeah, it's a pity, there's some great maps and otherwise really stellar work in the mod, but it's unfortunately hitched to some of the worst drivel I've ever sat through. The core concept of the Roadside Picnic was great - we are utterly baffled, physically overwhelmed and philosophically traumatised by what is essentially high tech alien rubbish. This was turned into some kind of semi-retarded crap about the noosphere in the game, but still kinda worked. In this mod it gets replaced with the illuminati and some nob in a big hoody that makes him look like a todd mcfarlane version of a jawa. It's frustrating!

Yeah I know exactly how you feel about it. I'm waiting on the supposed DC version of the mod. I still see weekly updates to the mod through the development channels. But I'm not really part of the team any more. Had to move on. Dez is still hard at work on it. Nothing has stopped him from working on it, it seems. Even that Ukrainian and Russian Conflict seems to only give him more energy.
They are also working on their own title now. And the pictures I've seen so far looks amazing. Great mapping as always. But I bet you the story will be more shoddy nonsense.
I feel like there are better alternatives out there. Better things to do now.

Do i need to install The first Stalker game in order to play this mod? what files do i need to download to play this Lost alpha Mod?
Renault on 14/7/2016 at 15:30
Pedro, you should really read through this thread for answers. Check the posts 4 and 5 posts above yours, there's a download link there and info on what files are needed.

Thank you Mike, i read all before and that's how i came across the link, my doubt was if the last downloadable content "S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Lost Alpha SDK Addon 1" is the right file to install lost alpha mod, and if i need Stalker installed.

SDK stands for "Software Development Kit" ... are you a developer?
AFAIK, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Lost Alpha Patch 1.3003 is the latest. It is a cumulative "patch" and does not need anything to be installed prior. The posts above, that you did "read", seem to agree.
The game is well worth it (albeit very buggy), as long as you do your best to completely ignore the story-fan-wank-of-absolute-shit.

So all i need is to install the patch? and i don't need to install the game Stalker shadows of Chernobyl?

Yo, if you want some friendly advice, I would massively, massively recommend the Old Good Stalker Evolution mod over lost alpha. It retains the original storyline (with a few embellishments) but integrates most of the cut areas, and does it well - all have well-thought-through questlines associated with them, and most are tied sensibly into the main plot. It also does all the expected weapon modding, graphics overhauls, cut mutant additions, new equipment, survival enhancements etc etc etc. The Dead City plotline alone is worth it, up there with anything in any of the vanilla games. It is pretty much the game I wanted to play in 2003, which isn't something I say lightly.

No, as stated above, the game is standalone. You don't need to install Shadow of Chernobyl. And the patch will not do any good by itself, it's a patch after all. You need to install parts 1-4 (version 1.3000) from the downloads area. Then, once you have all of that installed, you need to use to patch to get your version up to version 1.3003.
