Wow.
I had my doubts, though I was not expecting it to really happen. I mean GSC has always been understanding. They are a great company. Joe Mullin was a great guy who did it all for the fun of it. And now it's being exploited and used to engage in public debates and slandering. And also to sell books and probably other merchandize.
I'd like to look at it neutrally though, from both sides. But getting anything out of GSC lately is almost impossible.
Thoughts?

GSC basically ran out of money, didn't they? Does strange things to people.

Spot on! The CEO pushed a lot of money into the series and movie that was supposed to happen. When the people he hired came back with a script he didn't like it. So he wrote his own script. Which backfired as the sponsors didn't think it was worth investing in. So he lost all that money. And then there's the more important side of it all: Development behind Stalker 2. He had a dedicated team who kept working on the game even after he stopped paying them.
But they could only take that much, and while he was extremely supportive with Shadow Of Chernobyl, when Call Of Prypiat came out he only really cared for money. Which is a worthy thing to aim on, but you must be careful as it can backfire.

The movie, of the game, of the film, of the book.

Hey, Axon1988: Quick question. Does LA play nice with the Steam version of Stalker? Or do I have to get a retail version from somewhere?

Well for now it's a completely stand alone game. Not sure what they are going to do for release. But from previous questions as far as I understand it, it works fine with steam.
As with all stalker mods you'll be adding a gamedata folder and editing some things. So Steam should be okay with that.

LOL, really? Nobody has updated this thread since 2012? Wow.
Well, if you've just stumbled by this thread by accident you should know S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Lost Alpha is out already and has been for about a month. It was released early due to some idiot leaking the first version. Although LA is very playable in it's current form (with patch 1.30013) you should still consider it as early access. Next patch release has been marked down for this week actually so maybe hold fire playing it now for the new patch because save games will not work with it. I already started though and it is amazing, if you're prepared to overlook the bugs.
So yeah, not frozen anymore - its out and ready to play. Go get it soldier!
EDIT
Oh and you don't need SoC to run it, it is standalone , doesn't need Steam...and its free. That's FREE.

I was thinking about updating it. But it's been hell this side with the release.

Also it might be worth mentioning that there is a new patch coming out... possibly this week or the next that will require a NEW game. Previous saves will not work with this patch. Makes the game much more stable, and sorts out stupid bugs like door codes getting switched.
