btw, i finished stalker 2 times vanilla. once the retail version UNPATCHED, then one or 2 patches later. since then only modded in one way or the other (mostly graphics + guns or AMK/OL/Priboi). I never had any gamebreaking bugs. Maybe I had luck :)

Bugs seem to vary pc from pc...

The thing with Stalker is that you never know what bug will hit you. Even minor quest bugs can be annoying. I don't know how many times I've played through the game already, but on my current run I've come across a bug that had never happened to me.
In the Army Warehouses, three of the Dutyers from Skull's squad just managed to get themselves killed (two tried to walk across an Electro anomaly, and another one got his ass kicked by a couple of Bloodsuckers). Now it's impossible to complete the quest to wipe out the Duty squad. If I go there and kill the remaining five, the game still acts as if they're all there (I talk to Lukash and he sends me to Max, without giving me the option of telling him that I've dealt with them already). If, on the other hand, I don't kill those remaining five Dutyers and instead lead the Freedom squad to the farm, even after they kill all the Dutyers, they still act as if the job is not done (when I talk to Max he tells me that he'll talk to me after we've dealt with the Duty squad). This makes it impossible to follow the Freedom missions story line.

Emergent gameplay ;)

Ok, I'm running Stalker on GameTap again and getting the same error message again. It says...
Fehler
one google translate later...
Mistake
The page file is disabled or the file size is not enough.
In order to function as the game needs a page file of at least 2GB. Please adjust the system before the game started again.
So... pagefile? Hold on. Gonna fiddle around with control panel...
YES! IT'S ALIIIIIIIVE!!
I just went into Control Panel->System->Advanced->Performance->Advanced->Virtual Memory and upped the Paging File Size from 768-1536 to 2000-3000 and after that the game started. :D
Well alright, I'm on my first day of a 4-day weekend, now I know what I'll be doing until Sunday. :)
Assuming GameTap keeps STALKER in the free section that long, that is.

I ran into this again the other day. I wandered off and did some exploring. When I came back 3 new duty guys wandered into the area, said 'whassup' and got shot in the head by me, then I was prompted to go visit Lukash.

I've wandered off for days already, but no Dutyers ever appeared so far...
