If I need ammo, medkits, money, etc. I simply go to the tanker (Schevshenko or whatever) near Skadovsk and kill everyone there. :p

I generally find the money in this game to be pretty easy still. Perhaps it's only if you've got some Stalker experience.
At first I thought it was pretty tough, scrougning money very slowly which I thought was great. But then I found a Bear detector on some dead guy and finished a couple of artifact missions. I was swimming in cash after that (I think it was a goldfish. 24000R !). I don't know how to balance it exactly but it'd be cool if they manged to make it so that money is so tight actually feeding yourself is hard, at least on some really high difficulty level.

I do have a fair bit of experience with the STALKER games, but I was somewhat rusty when starting CoP after a long break from the series.
Bear indeed made things considerably easier. Yesterday I finally found my first anti-rad artifact in a cave not far from Skadovsk. Also picked up 2 other artifacts in there. I was bloody lucky to get out of there alive, that cave was drowning in anomalies and I still have the starting armor, which is considerably worn out by now.
God I love artifact hunting. Can't wait to get my hands over Veles.
(The main campaign and side-missions are ok too I guess. :p)
Oh, and is it just me or do dead guys have much more loot now? On a single corpse I sometimes find enough food to last me for days.

when you went into the cave.....did you find the other thing you can find there....apart from artifacts ?
...just a little hint...
the "much" loot thing is because the AI loots themselves. you can find a guy carrying multiple guns and meds

Didn't find anything else in there, I wanted to get my ass out of there as quickly as possible. I'll return when I have better suit and artifacts. ;)
I just finished playing some more and found at least 7 more artifacts, 3 of them in the swamp where one of the crashed helicopters were. +6 chem. protection I had found earlier came in real handy there.
And I noticed the AI looting bodies thing on my very first mission. Annoyed me at first because I was hoping to get a nice boost of supplies in my inventory.

Yeah, the looting is frustrating at first, but MUCH more realistic considering the situation/environment. I grew to like it.

I am having difficulty in figuring out this "Oasis" puzzle. I am in the room [near the abandoned train station(JUPITER MAP)] with all the pillars in the middle. I already figured out that I have to walk a certain "way" through this room; I've tried every possible combination; but all I hear is this "ZING" noise and I'm back at the front the room :eww:
Has anyone figured this puzzle out? Am I missing something or did I forget to do something beforehand:confused:

Evening
After hours of mucking about with CoP, Catalysts 10.3, Xfi xtreme music drivers and Windows 7 x86.... I think I have discovered what was causing the massive FPS drop in-game and which is most obvious Zaton stalker base. But this didn't start happening until I have at least half way through the game.
My system is as follows:
Qx9650@stock
HD5870@stock - cat 10.3 fresh
Xfi Xtreme Music - Drvr:2.18.0013 & Alchemy:1.4.02
Windows 7 x86 - latest patches
tested FPS with each basic gfx setting and all settings in Adv. set to max
Static - 80+
Objects Dynamic - 70+
Full Dynamic - 60+
E. Full Dynamic - 50+
DX10 - 30+
DX11 - 20+
As DX11 seem to loose me 10fps for not much more eye candy i opted for DX10. The show stopper was when standing in the stalker base in Zaton and then enabled EAx, my FPS dropped to 10.... WTF I hear you say..
Anyway at least the game is playable now, but I am still getting randon CTD....

come on, that puzzle is for minors ;)
kiddin', I had to try a few times as well.
room - pillars.
go through ANY pillar to the end of room. one of them will "light" up with that particle effect. you will get teleported back to start of room. Now go through ANOTHER pillar that is NOT highlighted. you get teleported back to start of room. REPEAT until no new pillar is being lighted.
NOW go through all of the highlighted pillars to the end of room and the teleport is gone and you find the Oasis.

Just finished right now - absolutely beautiful game. It won't top my favourite game of all time (SoC) but it is up there. The dialogue, story and interface were sublime. Oh and THE INCREDIBLE BALLISTICS SYSTEM. Soooo atmospheric and mysterious, and beautiful art direction. Absolutely blown away, so much so that I can even forgive the fact that the game is TOO BLOODY EASY
My main criticism is that it was far, far too easy (loot, number of enemies, huge reward for artifacts that are too easy to retrieve, and you can just stroll through anomalies etc). Someone mentioned how easy it was to eat. Yes, it should have been harder as with most of the other mechanics of the game. Also imba suit upgrades so you can carry the kitchen sink into battle is a bit annoying. I went into the game thinking I would be lucky if I could invest in one weapon tops. I had a massive arsenal all upgraded to tier 2 - I didn't even get to the tier 3 weapon upgrades, which brings me to my second criticism.
The game was WAAAY too short and the ending was sub-par. The fact that I hadn't yet hit tier 3 left me thinking there would be an enormous SoC-style CNPP-difficulty endgame after meeting Strelok (what the fuck was he doing showing up all goodie-two-shoes to the USS anyway). I finished Zaton and Yanov completely before reaching Pripyat (where you get tier 3 afaik) so maybe I shot myself in the foot with that.
The ending of SoC was one of the greatest set-pieces in recent memory and there was nothing like it in CoP, in my opinion.
Advice for those who haven't played it yet:
* Play on master difficulty (yes, it is hard for like the first hour of play but after that it's a fucking walk in the park)
* REAL MEN USE IRON SIGHTS TURN OFF YOUR CROSSHAIR OMG
* Find Nimble ASAP (I missed him until I got to Yanov)
* Don't fuck about go straight to yanov and pripyat and jump between them and fight everything.
* Disable all the UI helper shit to make life difficult - you'll thank me by the end of the very short time for which this beautiful game lasts
* Do every quest (skip the military shit and save it until you are sick of the side quests and are fully upgraded)
* Find the calibration tools and get tier 3 ASAP so you can not be a fool like me and use it in the game proper
* Avoid getting the exoskeleton and Strelok's SIG SG because the combination of the two is pretty much insta-win
