So how is the "proper" way to handle it? You hand over the artifact when he asks, or you drop it when they hold you at gunpoint, or what?

This is the unmodified Russian release? I don't believe it. I played through it twice, on XP and W7 x64 with DX10, and never saw any sunshafts.

i get sunshafts all over the place, disabled them for better performance....

Any way is proper, but if you want a few more quests you should hand over the artifact.
He'll sprint to Boroda (the barman) and sell it to him, time to talk to the deceiver, but be nice with him...PS: Scratch all I wrote about the quest. Vobla won't give any quests later, I mixed up this quest and another one.

that's the same options that you have in dx10, only there you get volumetric fog/light, streaming surfaces and stuff additionaly to the ones shown. sunshafts have their own 3 settings as you can see.

My settings were perfectly capable of producing sunshafts, I just had to install a weather mod to have them, because there weren't any in the game.

The sunshafts are only visible during a brief period of time in the morning, you could easily miss them. And not all mornings are clear in the CoP ;)

Am I the only one who's a bit underwhelmed? I haven't read a lot here but I feel people are quite enjoying it. I'm only somewhere in the second territory yet but until now I had more fun in CS - at least in its first half - and I'm no shooter nerd at all.
The zone looks quite boring so far compared to SoC, though some anomaly placements are spectacular. The missions are generic go theres get me thats. The bloodsuckers are somewhat way less scary than in SoC, with the exception of that sleeping lair mission. There's too many folks around. You start way too close to a hud where everything's available and safe and cozy, which ruins a bit the dread.
I can't really point it out, I miss the madness and dread. It feels like the makers played too much Fallout 3.

madness and dread ? I have it around every corner..... the maps are LARGE and you have to travel at night for the creepy stuff. during days the mutants are ..... more polite and less in numbers. yeah, the map starts out a little crowded but over time the stalker numbers dwindled, they did not put many respawns in imo. And while all quests start out about the same they do change inbetween and there are a few ones without any objective at all like "find 2 guys and tell them something but we don't know where/why/what. I played ~ 6 hours in the first map alone and still did not finish every quest. Now I'm already 2 hours in the jupiter map and didn't even start a new quest yet. This game is packed to the brim with stuff to do and explore. ClearSky was like an online shooter with drunk enemies that use aimbot and just got constantly on my nerves. In COP you can have your own pacing just like you want it.
e.g. get the documents from base x :
my version: I approached the building, there was a pipe you could sneak through but when you exit it and get the documents everybody is on alert and starts shooting you. So I decided to trick them...I ran up to the enemies, shot a few rounds and threw a grenade in their direction. once they started to all move in my direction I dropped down in the sewer, circled around them, scaled the pipe, stole the documents (in the now empty building) and ran out the main door. mission accomplished.
my friend: bought some vg-25 nades and underbarrel launcher for his AK, sniped the front defense, stormed to the building, shot a few nades in there and then mopped up with his shotgun. mission accomplished.
do a mission you did during the day at night and you will defenitely feel the difference. btw, If a bloodsucker can kill you in 1-2 swipes I guess you will find them more scary. I would say that the bloodsuckers are impressive now, they really swarmed me cloaked from behind. one started sucking at me without me noticing, the moment he stopped sucking another bloodsucker kicked me into the air, when I touched the ground I was already dead.....all happening at a pitchblack night without me having any nightvision or headlamp on.
COP is like the 2nd coming of SOC christ to me. it's an expansion/add on and I already spent more time in this game than in other "full" games.
I'm thoroughly statisfied, no, even hyped for this game.
Will be replayed again and again and again like SOC.
