Heard about this yesterday.
Thoughts :
* looks marginally better than CS, however the moody atmosphere with a lot of clouds, night and rain is much more enjoyable than... well, clear sky
* looks particularly smooth. The NPC behaviour doesn't seem to be scripted, yet remains consistent, no strangely bugged events, no crash
* i get more fps in this than in CS. X-Ray has really gone a long way and I was surprised to learn that my 4850 could take it at "Extreme" setting in 1680x1050
* NEVER, EVER use dx10 mode unless you have a powerhouse. Been consistently losing 15-20% of frames just by turning it on
* man i want it so much it hurts :(

i am currently holding on the principle that a professional translation is worth the wait. i don't care about the voices though, mostly text. So, have you used the unofficial english patch, and how usable is it ?

I think the better performance is basically because there are no sunshafts or volumetric smoke (and possibly other effects).
I used a mod to add lots of sunshafts, which looked nice (less cartoony), but about halved the FPS.

Game difficulty doesn't affect enemy HP from what I've observed(THANK GOD), only damage. I recommend everyone who played a STALKER game before to play on Master right off the bat, it is only fair for one Bloodsucker swipe to take 4/5th of your health with Sunrise on.

He's cool (in the game at least) and I immediately got him his transistors. Love the zaton/jupiter area sofar and like you said, I need to get a life. I usually start a new area by walking everything, observing, noting, returning to base and then take on missions afterwards and only 1 at a time which is time-consuming but gives you much more time to appreciate the a-life. Sometimes I just sit and watch with my binocs when other stalkers/mutants have fights. It's so cool. Also, since monsters give you no money they have no use in the zone therefore I stay "in character" (lol) and avoid them rather than killing them all. And sometimes this saved my skin with other stalkers taking the bait, shooting a pack of dogs only to get ambushed from behind by a bloodsucker. Good times in the zone.
Dredger ? Where do I find him ? Can't recall any mission with him/her/it....I did almost all missions in zaton (besides the underground level where I don't have any keycard yet and I guess it will be one of the last missions).

more so, GSC did use the real life putin as reference, there was even an article showing more "characters" in COP having the faces of prominent russian and ukranian people. It's just so funny talking to him, he has a very funny - unintentional I assume - german VO that makes me chuckle each time when I remember what Putin really sounds like. He's all like "barf, barf" in real life but in the game he's more like "meek, meek". this game gives me so much. all other games (theVoid, DragonAge) are on full stop until I discovered every possible angle to the new zone. ClearSky is forgottn, long live COP.

please use DX10 mode, be sure you do.
I have a 8800gts + core2duo + 8gb ram + win7 64bit and full dynamic+dx10 gives me 50fps. more than enough.

What I do is to disable Sunshafts, they REALLY bring down your GPU, I can turn on steep parallax, volumetric light/fog, streaming surfaces, SSAO in full effect and it only takes away 1-4fps, but sunshafts and all goes down to 20fps.

Can you believe the most popular Russian game portal ag.ru gave 54% to the game?
I laughed so much when I saw it. I don't know, maybe the reviewer bears a grudge against Ukrainian devs, or plainly hates Stalker, but 54% WTF? The same reviewer gave 92 to Bioshock f.e. Readers were giving it 85 or so before the review appeared, but then reviewer's fans obviously started to vote and took it down to 74.
