STALKER is often referred as "Oblivion with guns".
Ummm... no. That's Fallout 3.

I'm not making that up. Just Google "STALKER + oblivion with guns". Both apparently are referred as such... except that STALKER came out first.

Exactly - the modders basically just flip few switches and stuff appears out from nowhere. Which was exactly my argument, if modders, people with limited coding ability who just poke at the game with sticks and see what happens(as opposed to devs who know it inside out) can make so many things - emissions, global news network, improved alife fighting for locations - in such a short period of time, it was more than available to GSC in the first place. So it's not really case of having more than one can chew, isn't it?
Apparently, it is. GSC's concept isn't that original, yet there aren't that many STALKER clones out there. Okay, there's Far Cry 2, but it doesn't seem to be much better, despite being developped by a much bigger company (Ubisoft). Actually, I've been told it's actually worse on every aspect.
Seriously, can we really blame GSC for doing what most game studios - even the bigger ones - do anyway? Heck, with the amount of cut/rushed features, even our beloved System Shock 2 is no exception.

I wouldn't say Stalker is Oblivion with guns heh. Far from it. Stalker comes from a fusion genre tradition of the likes of System Shock and Deus Ex.
Far Cry 2--never played it--but I don't think you have an inventory in that game. Am I wrong? But from what I've surmised, it isn't "copying" Stalker, rather it's a sandbox FPS.
@Koki, I find it funny how you're defending their coding experience when I think the fact that this project took them six years pretty much proves their incompetence at it heh.
Either way, Stalker I think opened up some new avenues, perhaps a new genre: the survival FPS. It's a fusion game, and yes, comes from a long tradition of games like it, but it's the only one (so far) that really gives it's experience. Maybe Fallout 3's like that, but I haven't played it yet--and the whole "freeze the game and target" system kind of turns me off.
But yeah, as soon as someone comes out with a better game "like it", of course I'd rather play that.

There's no inventory in Far Cry 2. Moreover, you only pick up generic "bullet," "explosive," or "incendiary" boxes that refill whatever weapon you're holding of that type. I think Ubisoft did it a disservice by playing up the "sandbox" angle, when there's really nothing to do outside of the main quests other than randomly shoot people. What it does provide is a lot of freedom in the vein of "okay, here's the enemy outpost, you decide what weapons you're going to use and how you want to attack it." The health/ammunition limits are rather tight on the harder difficulties, so it actually pulls off the "survival" aspect better than Stalker at times.
Fallout 3 does okay when it comes to scavenging and exploration, but I found it to be incredibly easy--I played on Hard and was swimming in ammo and stimpacks by level 8. Ammo and health are weightless (and the weight limit is huge anyway), so there's no need to carefully pick your equipment or worry about running out of supplies. That and the actual shooting mechanics are pretty poor when compared to a dedicated FPS.
Complaints aside, Stalker still pulled off something quite unique.

It did. Yet it's kind of hard to say what that is I think, given that little of the game is that wildly removed from what's gone before, but nonetheless Stalker really did have a flavour that was entirely its own.
It's also frustrating, because with just a little bit of care in the right places it could have been magnificent.

He left me the exact same message. I have no idea what his problem is, but I'm sure I'd understand it better if he actually explained it in Spanish (from what I've seen of his profile, he's from Spain), since my Spanish is way, way better than his English :)
The problem is, even if I can understand what his problem is, I have never installed this mod, so chances are I won't be able to help him with this.
