I finally got the game today after waiting 10 days for it to be deliver (Grr Amazon), got it all installed and ready to play on my new system and WHAM - it doesn't work. :( As can be seen from the screenshot below, when I start a new game that is all I see. I can hear someone talking to me, and text comes up on the screen when I 'walk' forwards, saying 'This door is locked'.

I'm using the latest driver for the GFX card, and I've patched Stalker to the latest (1003) patch with no luck.
Any suggestions?

Now that is odd. Did you try a fresh reInstall or simply restart the level?

And your operating system?
It may not work with Vista, as I read they're going to add support for Vista with next patches or something like that.

Odd and annoying, yes.
It's all sorted now though. :D Turned out it was a conflict with Nvidia Control Panel which was forcing the anti-aliasing - turn that off in the CP and it works. So I've fixed that, as well as the game crashing when I press the escape key (only with Vista). I've never come across such a bugged game, but I still have high hopes for it.

I could have sworn I was forcing AA, but turns out I wasn't. I should call myself lucky eh? :p

Enjoy. Easily the best game released fro a long time.
Give it time to warm up though, it gets so much better once you reach a certain point.

5 hours in and I've just come out of the first underground section (finding whatchamacallits stash) and all I can say is _wow_ this game is difficult! It took me half an hour to get past one bit, that must be a record.
I'm loving the game though - so much background story, the graphics are great etc. I just wish it wasn't so hard, I'm only playing on the stalker setting! But really, as far as complaints go that's rather mild, so a thumbs up from me. :thumb:

It is hard at first, when you get better guns you'll mow down enemies like they are made of sand. :cool:
