ss2 vs. deus ex - by xerxes2044

ive heard a lot of talk about how ss2 and deus ex are both great games and how they are similar yet different. now, ive played and beaten both thoroughly. but am i the only one that feels that the music in deus ex totally sucks ass compared to ss2, and ruins the game experience? the only good music in DE was when u are captured and imprisoned in the MJ12 facility.
your thoughts people?

I thought the music in Deus Ex was usually pretty cheesy, but so was a lot of the rest of the game.

I quite liked the DX music... but then, I'm pretty hard to annoy when it comes to game music, and I tend to be pretty positive towards tunes that are really noticeable (even if that's cause they're cheesy). I think we can blame that on the fact that I grew up on Sonic The Hedgehog.

Deus Ex has one of the best computer game soundtracks I've ever heard.

I'll always remember the first time I installed that game. The spinning DX logo and the intro seemed normal, then bam, the DX theme started playing.
Awesome.
It's the only game I think where just these first few seconds, on their own, were worth the price of the game (ok, I did buy it on budget, but still, it's something...)
And of course, it got better when the game actually started ;)

No, I'm sure there are a few other people who share your complete lack of taste.

The way I see it, it's kind of like comparing apples and oranges.
Deus Ex used the music to enhance that cyberpunk theme, which I think Alexander Brandon executed very well.
System Shock 2's soundtrack was mostly atmospheric, the 4-5 techno tracks really gave me a feeling of intensity and paranoia. While it was still techno it gave off a completely different vibe than the music in Deus Ex.
With that out of the way, I'd say I prefer the music in Deus Ex more. I can't appreciate System Shock 2's atmospheric tracks unless i'm actually playing the game, and while I really enjoy 4 of the 5 or so techno tracks, Deus Ex also has great music, with about 20-30 more tracks worth listening to.
That being said I must have listened to just Hydro 1 and Ops 2 alone about 20 times by now.

Also, the title is kind of misleading, since it's only the music we're talking about. "SS2 vs. Deus Ex" and "SS2's soundtrack vs. Deus Ex's soundtrack" are completely different stories for me.

Add me to the list of people with lack of taste. I'm not saying that the music in Deus Ex is bad, but I really prefer SS2's.
