It's not simply New Dark, it's also got other fan produced content in it, including ZylonBane's own "System Shock 2 Command Deck Crash Fix" with associated text file.
Some of that $9.99 has to be going to Night Dive Studios, and I'm a wary of them getting money for taking other people's work, especially when they've been less than honest about it.

Purchased and downloaded, and it seems it's an exact replica of the new dark patch, so i wonder what job has done this Night Dive guy. :p I mean, they didn't even removed the skip_intro line from the cam.cfg file. If you're selling a game why not showing the Irrational logo?

Night Dive and GoG waxing breathless over "techninjas" et.al. is pretty stomach churning.
BUT BUT BUT
I give this Night Dive outfit massive props for accomplishing something everyone thought was damn near impossible -- cat-herding the SS2 rights to one org that is interested in distributing SS2 digitally and DRM-free through GoG.
This hopefully means new Shock converts. New mods. New content. Shock sites DDoS'd by SHODAN-addled newbies.
This makes it all good, and I'm willing to let Night Dive and GoG take the credit for it, even if it's all Le Corbeau's and other's work. Take the bad with the very, very good.

Agreed on all counts.

I, too, am a little unsettled over how they worded things regarding what they did to make the game work.
That said, it's impressive that this got released at all. I'm sure Mr. Kick did his share of work in securing the rights to the game, and it might be true that he did make some "initial modification" to get the game working. It might also be true that GOG's "techninjas" made some sort of addition to New Dark. I'm willing to give these guys the benefit of the doubt, as hard as it may be.
I haven't picked it up yet, because I was worried about potential problems with modding vs the disk version. If you guys are confirming that it works just as well as my disk does, it's time to sell my disk and pick it up digitally.

Why the hell would you sell your physical copy?
Maytan on 14/2/2013 at 18:43
I don't really see the point in having a redundant copy, and owning the game digitally would be more convenient. Plus, I'd probably make a few bucks in the process to put towards that copy of System Shock that I want to get my hands on.
Or maybe I won't sell it, I dunno. Stop making me second guess myself!

ZB's command deck fix and the presence of the DataPermanentMods folder means only one thing - they have simply prepatched the install with ss2tool (ver. 4.0). and that means they have used a tool which has a known author without his permission and without crediting him. and this, ladies and gentlemen, is a shitty thing to do.

This has happened already. systemshock.org was hit by so many guest users today that it couldn't keep up.

I think it would be safe to say that those of us who mod SS2 would have no problem donating our work to a GOG release free of charge. It's the credit-stealing that's annoying. Night Dive has an amazing accomplishment under their belt in finally getting the digital distribution rights to SS2. Why they feel the need to also lay claim to things they didn't do is utterly baffling.
