Is that enough to run SS2 by default?
Believe it or not, yes. The stated minimum requirements are as follows:
200 MHz Pentium or better
32 MB RAM
Windows 95 or higher
200 MB hard drive space
4x CD-ROM drive
100% DirectX 6-compatible sound card
Supported 4 MB DirectX 6-compliant graphics card
Ideal requirements at the time of release were more along the lines of a 400 MHz CPU, 96+ MB RAM, 600 MB hard drive space (for save games and cinematics), a Sound Blaster Live or Aureal AU8830, and a Voodoo2 SLI, Radeon 7000, or Matrox G400.
Heh. Remember it like it was yesterday. Hell, the first time I played through the game I commanded the awe-inspiring power of a Pentium 233 MMX with 64 MB RAM and an original Monster3D.

On my P2 Celeron 400, 64 RAM and 3Dfx Banshee 16 MB I couldn't afford to play it in 1024x768. :(

Aw crap! I upgraded to a 8800GTS for Bioshock, Crysis etc but I won't be able to play SS2 with it? Luckily I still have my 6600 lying around.
Edit: Is it possible to install both cards and swap em around (driver wise) as I need them?
I have an 8800GTS, and a dual-core Intel computer running Windows Vista, and I have no trouble running SS2 on it with both SHTUP and Rebirth (complemented), at any of the resolutions, including the 1280x1024 (though I prefer the native resolution only for the fact that the HUD text, map, etc. don't scale up, and it's too hard to read that way). As for banding, though, I'm not sure about that. There might be some that I just chose to overlook due to the game's age, or perhaps the upgraded textures took care of it.

Using 4xAA rather than 8xS fixes the banding problem for me. I'm running a 7900GS, XP x64 SP2 and Forceware 169.09 beta.
