I never caught the HL1 - Doom similarities before. Probably because I never cared much for either game. Really cool observation though.

Hmm... at first you need to destroy the 3 crystals those heal Nihilanth when you wound him. Then wound Nihilanth, but don't fire all your ammunitions now, because that leads to an unwinnable state - Nihilanth will be too weak to send a teleport and you will be out of ammunitions to finish him. So let him teleport you. You can find ammunitions at all 3 places. But I'll look after it. I'm just playing Half-Life on difficult level...

If I remember correctly I destroyed the crystals with a few shots from the crossbow. Then I used the "jump pads" to reach a high level and attack the top of Nihi's head until he died.

OK. I'll try that out. Why did you waste crossbow shots for the crystals? The hornetgun is perfect for that purpose, since it's ammunition is endless. :)

In one of the speedruns I've seen the player finishes him off with the crowbar
