Does anyone know how to make SS2 run at 1280x1024 or better yet 1600x1200? is there a configuration file or some command i have to put in?
or is it just impossible for the game's engine to do?

Just edit your cam.cfg file in your SS2 folder, and change the line game_screen_size to the desired value, e.g.:
game_screen_size 1280 1024
or
game_screen_size 1600 1200
P.S.- The 'Search' function is your friend. Use it and abuse it.

thank you very much
(Now if we can just get EA not to screw up SS3!!)

You should know that these resolutions make the inventory text very small; which could cause problems if you don't know the game better than your own hands. :p

Has anyone tried any non-standard resolutions? For example, I have a widescreen laptop with a 1440x900 native resolution. It'd be nice to try SS2 at that res.

I know TNT has been trying to get widescreen resolutions going on her lappy, but I don't think she's had much success yet.

Yeah, there's a way of hacking in widescreen support for Thief 2, but I never tried it for T2, let alone SS2. Read (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=99202) this thread, the only information I've ever found is here. However, I don't consider anything being displayed in 4:3 and matted to look like 16:10 or 16:9 to be worth the trouble, since you're losing picture rather than gaining it, and it sounds like what they're doing there.
You'd have a much easier time getting SS1 to run in widescreen, trust me on this. ;)

You can probably hack widescreen support (a decent one for that matter) if you know stuff like Assembly. Unfortunately you need to learn it first. :p

Assembly? I think you're highly confused.
A machine level language ain't gonna help you here.

I'm probably confused because I have no programming language knowledge at all, I just saw somewhere that a guy used Assembly to change many things about a game. :erm:
