I started replaying SS2 last night and am digging it so much as this has been my first playthrough since maybe 2000 and the game isn't fresh in my memory, but in terms of gameplay and everything else it's still as fresh as when it went gold.
Now, I played through originally as a Navy because I love the combo of weapons and tech; last night, almost without thinking, I gravitated the same way again because I love the diversity available as a techie - hack the shit out of everything but always with a handy arsenal.
My question is, I just reached engineering so I've only played it for around one or two hours, should I restart as another player type - OSA or Grunt?
To me it seems kind of worthless as OSA will have more psi-affinity (which is a weapon/tool) and Grunts will have more strength/weapon-affinity which I can level up anyway. I guess the main issue is that I never liked the psi-amp and never was curious enough about it to take it the the maximum levels of capability. Is the psi-amp really useful? Does having it really give you an edge? In the early stages all I can see it being is a substitute for a gun and to pull crap towards you from unreachable places.

If you play as pure OSA, you'll find out that the early stages are really difficult, but as the game progresses it becomes more and more easy. The BOTM is child's play for an OSA guy. Believe me, you'll see that it becomes a totally different game once you decide to play as OSA. Especially if it's pure OSA.
The way I usually play, I end up being a hybrid of all three branches, because psi is just too fun to leave out. Besides, Cyber-Affinity is extremely useful to a Navy guy who wants to hack everything in the early stages.

Well, I just reached Hydroponics and I'm still toting Level 3 Weapons and Level 1 Heavy Weapons, Level 3 Hack and Level 2 Maintain and Level 2 Repair. Maybe rather than going all out on Energy, I'll start using those points for Psionics.
