Have you played Bioshock yet? When you die, you respawn instantly with no penalty.

Cheating in single player missions is certainly *not* frowned upon.
Of course not. I was lying through my teeth when I wrote that. After all, I haven't been here long enough to know the general feeling of this community regarding certain issues. And definitely, bragging is also something that the people here all like to do, and our main purpose for being here. No one that brags around here is ever flamed. Really.

And have you noticed how much flak the game gets for that particular issue?

Well, yes. But my point was that contrary to Assidragon's post, non-challenging shooters have been done before :p

Yes, but that's a problem regarding the general tendency to 'dumb down' games so that they don't drive away potential players who might find them too difficult. Of course that on the other hand this enrages older players, who are used to more challenging games.

I think SS2 had the right balance there. You had to find and activate the machines in SS2. If you hadn't found one on a level it was a real pain having to go back to the previous one.
Bioshock could have used the same tequnique. They need to be activated to allow them the work, on the harder difficulties, you could hand "Out of order" on a few.
This could have been fun,
The enemy can use the health stations in bioshock.
Imagine if they didn't respawn (finite number on a level) but they could use vita chambers.....
Then give the player a plasmid that could destroy the chambers...
Now that could have added a really cool twist. If you destroy the chamber you have limited number of enemies to fight, but, if you do that, YOU can't use it either! Destroy them all and you could empty the level but would be completely dead if you die!
Of course the perfect way would be to add a "humanity" scale (like Bloodlines). Adam works great but it destroys the flesh. You could make the vita chambers adam based but each resurection cost you humanity. You could complete the game, only to end up a brain dead splicer...
Add to that the counter the choice of rescue / harvest and you would have had a whole new game.

So it's even worse than I thought. I can enjoy watching a playthrough of a game made by someone who actually knows how to play. Not a playthrough by some cheating loser, though.
It's not just that, he gets glee from giving away massive spoilers right from the off. He did it in a show off cuntish way too. I stopped watching after that, I really hate people like that.
Someone did it on metal gear solid too, and it's suprising the number of people who take glee from ruining the story for others. It's always with a great sarcastic "Oh, i'm sorry if I just ruined the game for you" comment too.
You could argue that I shouldn't be watching videos for games I haven't played already however I will say this - I am watching those vidoes up until the POINT to which I have played to, just in interest to see how other people do it. Self obsessed twats who think they are cool by spoling stuff for people really need to grow up :erg:
(So in short no, I have not yet played ss2 or mgs - for ss2, I started playing and got to your first enemy encounter (so like 5 mins in (excluding training)) but then I decided to play ss1 first, so erm yer I will get round to it eventually anyway :))

Why does everybody have this fascination with this idea? Once I've beaten a game, and I know the story, the game is not "ruined". If it was a fun game (and it has to be for me to even beat it in the first place), then the game will never be ruined, no matter how early or late I know the story.
But yes, when certain moments in the game are spoiled by some idiot, I want to go neuter him.
inselaffe on 12/9/2007 at 20:59
Well yes, slightly bad wording, the game itself isn't ruined per se, but with a bame heavily reliant on story, that is a large part of the game, and spoils the experience if someone decides to mention things :(
When you play a game for the second time, already knowing the story, that is a completely different situation entirely - of course the game is not ruined then.

Wow.....I just wasted ten minutes of my life. :weird:

I watched a few and I liked them. Dont let the childish attitude of some people here get to you. Cheating in single player missions is certainly *not* frowned upon. They just tell you so because they want to brag about their leet skills to beat a single player AI. They beat SS2 on "impossible" without cheating, wow that has to mean someting!
In all honesty, I see this more as a chance to poke at the game's internal logic and other bits of headscratching it makes you do. That and its comedy, go with it. Laugh, prove you have a sense of humor.
