Hi guys. I've tried to get SS2 work on Win7. I've readed the page how to install all the patches, mod preparation things and such.
The tutorial said to install the game by copying the SHOCK folder from CD, wich I did, but after patching up it didn't save any settings at all (though the game ran!)
So I tried installing via installer, applied all patches and the game saves settings now, sounds work and all and even videos (!) but when the game loads, it crashes.
I've tried everything, tried searching for I got no logical explanation to this.
Could someone just code a SS2 again in order to make it work in modern systems? Nobody gives a ****, not even the big shots.
Now if you excuse me, I'll get mi coat and knife and I'll go skin the bastard who is responsible of this "advanced" technology.

This is what I did when I replayed the game a few months back on my Windows 7 x64 Ultimate setup.
1) Install System Shock 2 to C:\Games\Sshock2 using the -lgntforce extension on CD setup.
2) Installed latest Official 1999 System Shock 2 patch.
3) Installed SS2Tools.
4) Widescreen set to 1680x1050 and 100Fov, looks and feels great.
5) Installed Indeo5 codecs and applied regsvr32 commands to input files into registry.
6) Ran sshock2.exe as Administrator. No problem.
7) Final game cutscene didn't work but all the other ones did, but who cares I watched it in VLC Media Player after the game booted me to the menu.

I had the game running with instructions from another forum, but now the game freezes every 5min and loops the sound.

Make sure you've applied the hyperthreading/dual core fix.

It's ok, you can name Strangebedfellows here.
You should have stayed with the instructions from SBF and just figured out why the settings were not saved.
Possible reasons I can think of: You placed the shock folder in Window's "Program Files", or you didn't play the game as Administrator.

Nah it's fine now, I got it working (and ja, I installed always to c:\sshock2)
The AMD dualcore optimizer didn't work in my computer (nothing happened), so I use the windows processes trick every time I start the game, to force it run with one core. Not a big deal.

I just installed the game, installed indeo codecs, ran ss2tool (latest version) and everything cept movies worked after that. I can survive without those.
Strange part was when I went to load up good old dromed. It crashes every single time due to the higher resolution patch, which I could never find a solution for. So in the end I had to resort to having SS2 installed in 2 separate folders, 1 with the resolution patch and 1 without and do dromed stuff in the one without it.

Strangely, I got my videos working (all of them) fine without any codecs installed (and very fresh win7).

Got it to work by selecting XP (sp2) compatibility mode, of all things.
