lol update.
I got wine, and after some troubles, I got it working...kinda...
It's the slowest game I've ever played. Seriously, it's probably around .5 frames per second.
Also, lolz to you, Kolya. Still looking for the Alpha. I found traces of the alpha in the CRFs. Has anybody ever investigated this??

Did you expect the game to run normally?

That's not normal :) You probably have software openGL instead of hardware. Try installing restricted drivers (it's somewhere in the menu).

Yes, there are leftover graphics from the alpha version in the CRFs. Also some time ago someone posted an (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=114743) early promotional video, that contained scenes done with an alpha version of the game.
But in all the years we've spent here, no alpha game version has ever surfaced.
There was a leaked beta that went around p2p sites for a long time, mainly recognizable by it's inability to be patched because the game executable was a pre 1.5 version (It was 1.2 I think.). But it looked and played like the released game. I once did a file comparison on it and the changes were minimal.

I guess alot of the death animations weren't completed in time for that promotional video. Otherwise, it looks pretty sweet!

TBH, i never played it on windows... :)
But i've finished it 3-4 times on linux. Ohh, the irony...
Unfortunately the last few (10? :D) versions have that missing item picture bug (which can be read about in the comments of appdb.
iirc, the last versions which ran SS2 nicely were around wine 0.9.1x

Seski, I ran into the same problem. So far, all 3 of the people I know having this framerate problem are running ATI video and a recent fglrx driver. Are you?
Since I switched to Linux I've regretted buying ATI at least once a week. The Linux Nvidia drivers are definitely better. Now that ATI's part of AMD, supposedly our situation will improve. AMD is (okay, claims to be) committed to supporting Linux properly.
And you jokers tossing out your smart-alec answers like "just run windows" should be ashamed of yourselves.Think about it: We're all here because we adore a set of games, most of which were relative flops 'cause they're too complicated. We know they're great, but most people won't put the effort into learning them, right? So some of us do that with the operating system too. I fail to see the difference.
I liked Kolya's "photo joke", though :)
Seski, while you're working on SS2, be aware SS1 runs great under dosbox! I'm playing it now, for the first time ever! Download the newest dosbox though (v0.72), rather than using the older one from the Ubuntu repository. That older one needs manual tuning; since v0.70 the tuning's been pretty much automatic.
