Happy belated birthday SS2 ... oh, how I walked your halls and bashed your guys and on occasion was slowly chewed and digested by your organic mass.

Someone wake up D'Arcy and tell him to add an announcement to SShock2.com.

He's probably still having cyber-sex with Shodan from last night. It is their anniversary you know...

Well, I thought the game industry has become notably more stupid during the last decade.
Judging by this list, actually, it hasn't.

Don't confuse the game industry with game consumers.

I don't. Game consumers have always been stupid (except for 0,001% of people, most of whom are frequent visitors to these forums).

The real problem is big business.
While the money they can inject into an industry can produce some wonderfull effects, once they find a formula that gets the most profit from the least effort, they stick with it.
Good examples are the sports games where all that changes are the stats, names and uniforms. They can churn those at very quickly. Games like the SS series that require real design work become a rarity.
There have been some good games released recently but they always end up with comprimise or the "cliff hanger" ending just waiting for a "EPISODE 2". Bioshock was great but if you compare some of the earlier demos and preview a lot changed to dumb it down. Even the multiple ending was tacked on so that you could play through without being a monster. Crysis annoyed with a cliff hanger. Half life is still stalled after Episode 2.
Then again, you compare that with the terrible state of the RB in SS2 and we see its been happening for years!

It's all easy: zonds of people just buy shit. They bought shit 10 years ago, they buy shit these days, they will be paying for even more shit (casual games, online games, browser games, you name it) in the future.
Honestly, I don't think I will be even following games news in 5-7 years. The industry is continuosly moving away from my interests.

It's not
that bad. Starcraft and Half-Life were both good games, AoE and Baldur's Gate were okay... well, 4 out of 19 isn't bad?
