Of greater concern is that pathetic 'fun size' pool table.

What I always thought was funny about the shotgun in this and other sci-fi games taking place in the future (such as Doom and Halo) is that it's always a pump action instead of semi-auto, even though the latter is more efficient and is therefore much more commonly used by the police/military.
I guess it's just a matter of them wanting to keep that whole classic "chick-chick" sound. :p

The SS2 shotgun is semi-auto, or else it wouldn't have a burst-fire mode. The fact it has a pump (I'd guess it's a fallback, in case the reloading mechanism jams) doesn't mean it has to be used. ;)

A)
I thought it was a tactical flashlight, of predictable TriOptimum works-once-then-never-again quality.
B)
Flush firing stud? Pressureplate on the grip? Grace of God through the power of prayer?
C)
Seeing as its' a laser, a laser sight would have made sense to me, even though there wasn't one in the game. Maybe it's broken, so they just gave you HUD crosshairs instead. :-)
D)
Honestly, I thought the triple shot mechanic was ... err... well, 'dumb idea' describes it adequately. If it needs explanation, I go with the 'three in the pipe and electrical triggering' rationale.

As for the shotgun- take a look at the shotgun hybrid's attack animation, then try to tell me it's pump ;)
Assidragon on 3/11/2007 at 23:14
Well, they SHOULD pump actually, seeing as they all use BROKEN guns - and in a gun which uses electric reloading/firing system, that'd give in the soonest, leaving them only with manual reloading between shots... (Technically, shouldn't they be unable to fire so broken guns anyway? :P)
A gun which leaves me wondering somewhat is the grenade launcher. Most MODERN grenade launchers have a safety feature which doesn't let the operator blow himself up (grenades only arm themselves after a certain distance - typically 30m, but may vary). Yet a super-hyper-advanced-sonuvabich-annihilator weapon will happily let the operator blow himself to bits with one unlucky move.
Yay, Triop? :erg:

Hm, you're right. I'd forgotten about the Hybrids. It's just that the image above looks like a standard pump, and there's no on-screen load animation for the shotgun, so I just kind of assumed.
Speaking of the grenade launcher, another thing I thought was kind of dumb is the fact that it's a large separate weapon unto itself. I mean, most modern personal grenade launchers are small deals which are mounted on another weapon (like the SMG above), and even the older ones are only about the size of a sawed-off shotgun (think Terminator 2).
However, in SS2, which is supposed to take place a hundred years in the future, you have to lug around this huge, heavy, rifle-sized weapon. It just seems rather silly.
Assidragon on 4/11/2007 at 01:48
Not exactly true. There are large grenade launchers, like the BGA 30mm automatic grenade launcher - but that thing really teaches the other side some respect, multitudes more than the measly SS2 one. Actually, the SS2 one is supposed to be an M32 replica, just the size is a bit off. According to the description it's supposedly a very nice hitech tool, but it simply is your contemporary grenade launcher. Like a lot of other guns.
Save for the AR, which has a personality disorder, being a World War 2 era SMG instead of an assault rifle. Oh well.

It boggles the mind to come up with a reason to have Fusion Cannons and grenade launchers on a frickin' spaceship.

TriOptimum realizes that their employees function much more efficiently when rewired by an evil AI or a mind-controlling biomass than they do on their own brainpower, so they've developed several implements to keep their potentially useful human resources out of enemy hands.
Enemy employees with big guns are the greatest threat, so they design those guns to offer the greatest chance to kill oneself.
